The SQ3R method (survey, questions, read, recite, and review), or the P.O.R.P.E. method (predict, organizing, rehearse, practice, and evaluate) are methods which can help to make reading textbooks more useful. Time Management Nursing students must learn to manage their time effectively to be able to handle the heavy load of coursework, and clinical requirements that they have and they will continue to use those skills once they are practicing as a nurse. Eliminating distractions, setting boundaries, and scheduling are key to time management (Kaplan, n.d.). Time management requires prioritizing tasks, removing distractions, and planning. Using both a master and weekly calendar as well as setting clear boundaries with family and friends are integral to time management. Exam Preparation During exam prep, students should review notes and keywords, and clear up confusing concepts (Kaplan, n.d.). Knowing what kind of test the student is preparing for will help to determine if concepts should be broad or more detailed and focused (Billings, 2007). Students should pay attention to their physical health by eating well and getting regular exercise (Kaplan, n.d.). One of the best ways for students to ensure their mental health and to reduce test taking anxiety is to be over-prepared for the test (Nugent and Vitale, 2016). Management of Care Prioritizing Nursing Care Nurses who care for multiple patients must be able to
Remember to pay close attention in nursing school to what is being taught. This is not trivial knowledge you are accumulating. It is vital to the job that you will be asked to take on. When you try to pass the NCLEX, expect much of what was taught in school to be part of the test. Do not wait until the end to try and cram for it. Make it a part of your general knowledge.
Time management is a skill I have learned, and it is one of the reason for successfully completing my community college journey. I have always attended college full- time, worked full- time, additionally I am also an active member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, among other extracurricular activities. Similarly, when I get enrolled into nursing school, I will bring what I have learned during my community college journey. Though flexibility is allowed, I will create a schedule and stick to it. Just like I usually do, I will set a semester goal, and work towards meeting that goal. On the other hand, I do not think working full-time will be advisable while in nursing school. Instead, I will look for a per- time job on campus or close to the
During the enrolment on my Access to Nursing course, I faced the problem of having difficulty in managing my time schedules. When I decide to go back to education, I never gave a thought of how I will manage my time for work, family, and studying. I did not do any research about the course that I am taking; for instance, how many subjects do I need to take, what time and what day would it be. Instead, I assumed that I can choose and decide the subject I want to take and the day and time to go and attend it to make it fit with my existing schedules
In order to search for the reputable scholarly website one must remember two basic principles: not every website has scholarly related data and not all the data has empirical foundation. The first intention of going to www.google.com will leave one with 1000’s of non-specific results. "Google Scholar" website (http://scholar.google.com), on the other hand will be more relative but not very specific. During previous discussions we have talked about American Nursing Journal. There are several reputable accrediting bodies were identified.
Something that I learned from your post is that commonality between many of our classmates that “recite” and “question” aspects of the SQ3R is new to most of us. A lot like you, I really enjoy annotating and have used it many times to read my course work and even in my professional life as an educator. I found myself sometimes just reading to get the reading over and not actually comprehend or retain what I was reading. Moving forward, using the SQ3R method will help me become a more avid and attentive reader.
Nursing practice in this era affected and facing by many societal factors challenges. Aging population, diverse demographic, increased health care cost, rapid advancement in technology and medical knowledge, global health care system, collaborative health care are some of those factors (National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice [NACNEP], 2010). In order to keep pace with the rapidly changing healthcare environment, nurse educators required to evaluate and revise education curricula, approaches, and programs used to educate new and practicing nurses. According to research studies new graduates felt as they possess enough knowledge to perform well in real clinical situation.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned such an array of important matters and aspects of nursing that will help my nursing career. Among these topics were learning how to prepare for the NCLEX, learning how to manage stress and provide self-care, learning how to be open-minded and realize one’s privileges, learning about the definition of nursing as well as nursing theories, and learning about a plethora of options in the nursing field. Through discussing and thinking about these matters, I feel as though I have become a totally different person than I was at the beginning of the semester.
I will stay prepared for tests by not falling behind in the material taught (Brock University, 2015). A part of my anxiety comes from feeling a lack of control over the situation. By staying on top of my class work I do not have to study as much prior to a test. I would have already understood the material prior to a test and therefore I would only need to review it. In Chapter 6 Ellis (2012) suggests rehearsing by reviewing the material regularly. While reviewing, I should create questions in the same format as the test will be (Ellis et al., 2012, p.194-195). By practicing regularly, I will know what to expect and feel more confident when entering a test. This should reduce my nervousness and stress prior to the
I have severe test anxiety. Whenever I hear the word test I start freaking out. I go into the exam thinking that I’m prepared and going to pass, but during the test, my mind goes completely blank. And once the test is over I pray that I at least got a C. The West Virginia University Student Center of Health gave me strategies to help with this. The article that I read told me that I should study before the day of the test and that on the day of the test I shouldn’t. I should only review my material, just read over it once, because when I try to cram on the day of the exam that fuels my anxiety and makes me worry

As a nurse leader, when somebody mention time management, the first thing clicking on my mind is how to prioritize. According to Fedor (2007). Time management is a technique designed to assist with completing tasks within a definite time. When it comes to nursing is not about getting things done, is about get thing done in right way and right time. The first I do when I get to work after reserved my report is to assess my patients then delegate the right assignment and right patient to staffs who were working under my supervision. I do that by following the five right of delegation. Then after that sit down and plan my work for the day, I plan my work by using prioritization method start with the most important to the least important. Also
The first thing I do before I take a test is to collect all my class notes. The second thing I do is review the study material. The third thing I do is take a practice test on what the test is about. The fourth thing I do is remember any hints or special format that the teacher gave me. The final get a good night sleep the day before the test.
SQ3R (or SQRRR) is a reading strategy that allows students to remember and understand what they read and by interacting with the text and using different methods to help solidify the information in their brain. SQ3R makes the reader think about the text and review their understanding of it throughout the passage, allowing them to remember what they’ve read after reading it.
In order to be successful in the Nursing Program, I have and will implement different studying strategies that will help me improve my overall grade in class as well as my understanding of the material and concepts learned. In addition, I will practice and work on improving my test taking strategies to better read and comprehend the questions asked in
