During lessons students should be aware of what is expected of them throughout the lesson. To ensure that students are aware of what is expected it can be helpful to have daily objectives on the board and review with the students. When beginning lessons it can be helpful to start the lesson by reviewing and asking questions about key vocabulary and content from previous lessons that can help connect prior knowledge to new material. Students should be encouraged to use notes from different lessons to help answering questions. This type of instructional practice can help promote students to want to participate and feel confident in the answers. It can also help students’ generate any questions that might arise throughout the activities. To help students stay organized and supported, sentence frames and data tables can be helpful to provide to students. The sentence frames and data tables help give students a sense of structure and support to help organize and explain their data and evidence. The majority of the lesson consist of students working in small groups to complete the lab. If students are comfortable with preforming the steps of the lesson it can help students stay on task and complete what is expected of the group and achieve the lesson objectives. The instructional teaching, such as the supports and modeling that the teacher provides for the students help with the change from whole group to small group and can create more success in the classroom. Students will be able to work together more successfully because the directions and expectations were explicitly shown to the students and help promote teamwork within the groups. As a teacher to ensure that students are listening through out the instructional teaching its import to keep eye contact with the students, have positive and safe body language, along with moving around the classroom and avoid turning your back to keep students attention.
