Crime and criminals go hand in hand, it happens almost everyday, anywhere, and anytime. A person might just come out from the front door of their house and boom, get shot and killed instantly. There are a lot of horrible people out there that in the act of assassinating kill someone that has nothing to do with what or who they were looking for. One thing that can be assured is that no one gets up one day and decides to go attack someone for no reason. In many cases innocent people are hurt, some may say it is destiny and it is suppose to happen that way. Others say God wanted it to happen that way, but the real question is can something like this be prevented? On Monday 27th 2017 an 8 year old girl was killed sitting in the back seat of her …show more content…
That day she was killed, it was a terrible day for her family. Does a person that has a whole life ahead of themselves deserve all this? It was a normal day in Houston Texas for Latoyia Jarmon-Thomas mother of De’Maree Adkins. She was driving and in the back seat sat her daughter, she was asleep. All of a sudden a car comes and crashes into Latoyia’s car; both cars collide head first. When the crash happened Latroyia tells the news that the driver from the other car ran off and desappeared instantly leaving the scene. Latoyia quickly goes to the back seat and checks if De’Maree is okay, which she was. The mother and her daughter were seating in their car waiting to see what will happen to both cars or if the car would be towed. During this time Latoyia does not know what to do and sees a car coming close to her, she thinks that car comes to help but did not imagine what the driver was going to do in reality. The guy was heading towards Latoyia’s car agressively, armed. The guy was shooting at the quarter panel and truck of the car, there were a total of five bullets. The man got in his car and drove off, Latoyia got out and went to check on her little girl. She says she shoot De’Maree to wake her up when she saw
Mass murder is defined by the FBI as the killing of three or more people in a single event or in the same day (Petersen & Farrington, 2007). Mass murderers are complex and can be examined by the many factors that regularly appear among them, such as violence precipitating events, weapon of choice, and mental illnesses. The motivations and methods for committing mass murder are easily broken down into specific groups, and through the examination of these definitions and specific cases there is much to learn about the mind of a mass murderer.
The major theme of Andre Dubus’ Killing,s is how far someone would go for the person they love. It is important to note the title of the story is killings and not killers, for the reasoning that the story does not just focus on two deaths or two murderers but rather the death of marriage, friendship, youth, and overall, trust.
Gunmans in Mass shootings such as Stephen Paddock was the shooter on October 1, 2017 When he opened fire during a show he had killed 59 people and injured 527 people. In the hours after the retired accountant committed the shooting, authorities rolled out frightening new details, including the discovery of scopes on rifles at the resort and explosives at his home.A team of six officers spoke with security at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, where Paddock was staying, and searched the hotel floor-by-floor Sunday night before they found Paddock's room, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters.
After the massacre, the trials were postponed for a few months for the soldiers own safety and gave time for the crowd to settle down. .Again Wikipedia does not mention the funeral and the time that the trials were postponed in order for the city and the people to calm down. Propaganda came after and propagandist such as Samuel Adams described the incident as a, “Horrid Massacre” . However, others such as John Adams who was a lawyer, believed that law and not propaganda would solve the case, and he agreed to be the defender of the soldiers at the trials, and argued that the soldiers acted in self-defense Wikipedia does state that John Adams fought for the soldiers, but it won’t say the reason to why he did it, and from other academic
Society has seen and experienced mass shootings over the last decade and more frequently as of recent. There have been mass shooting in malls, schools, military bases, movie theaters, and even churches. The shooting in South Carolina was not the first mass shooting to occur in a church. It may even seem that a number of mass shootings has increased over the years. Many have been quick to rush to judgment when these shooting have occurred and have led to overgeneralization, selective and inaccurate observation and illogical reasoning. Everything from guns, race, prior criminal history, lack of armed security, and a flag have been blamed for the violence that has occurred from those who
When tragedies occur, we always ask ourselves how and why did such a thing happened and what we could have done to prevent it. The Columbine High School massacre, perpetrated by two local high school students, was the worst school indecent to have ever occurred at the time. The Columbine High School massacre illustrated the issues that this country still retains such as gun control, bullying, violence, Internet use, and drug use by teenagers. This incident caused our society to reevaluate and to reconsider steps that we should take to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again. After the Columbine High School massacre, our nation would not be the same again.
The United States’ sloppy gun laws create angry citizens. Every time a shooting happens in the United States more and more people begin to realize something needs to change. “Public attitudes are shaped by a growing number of voices saying enough.” (Sulton 1). As time goes on the American people grow more upset with the state and federal governments. These lawmakers have been doing nothing to change the epidemic sweeping the nation. The carelessness of the government is only making more people fed up. “Unless we act the jokes on us. I refuse to believe as Americans we cannot change this narrative.” (Ozanne 1)
There are many different types of killings. Mass, serial and manslaughter killings are the most common. “The death tolls change and the places change. There have been shootings at churches, in many schools, in nightclubs, at music festivals, anywhere that there are people. The faces of all the people, many memorial sights that still stand today and remain the same, but the weapons are the common denominator and they never change. It’s always the guns that is the weapon people run to. Mass killings in America are most often carried out with guns, usually handguns, most of which are legal to use because there are no laws stating that Americans do not have the right to bear arms.” (“More than 50 Years of U.S. Mass Shootings: The Victims, Sites,
This question is more relevant today than ever. Gun violence is a key topic in news and discussions today due to the Florida school shooting. Personally, for me, it hits home since I work in an elementary school. When you work in a school, a shooting is one of your biggest deepest fears. After hearing about the Florida shooting, everyone in school was talking about it and still are. In fact, yesterday, I had a student tell me “did you know that there was a shooter in Florida that killed students, it happened on Valentine’s Day." I was speechless, what can you respond with? This day in age you can’t promise them that is won’t happen here. All I could say was “I know, it is very sad what happened.” I think that there is a lot of problems that
The crime that this paper will focus on and try to dissect/solve will be civilian mass shootings or as the Federal Bureau of Investigation refers to them, active shooter incidents, where a person(s) goes out into a public setting and tries to kill or injure others on purpose (FBI). The first problem with these types of incidents is gun control because the weapons that are used for these are guns that can be purchased from a store, and even if someone is to pass all the requirements to obtain and use one that does not mean that they should have one because of the risks involving not only them but anyone who might have access to the gun. Then there is the issue of mental health, not just mental illness, because besides anyone with
Either way mass shootings can be defined, they still present a huge problem in the United States. One popular definition of mass shootings is any incident in which, four or more people have been injured by gun violence. Using this definition the U.S had 204 mass shootings in 204 days in 2015 according to Mass Shooting Tracker a Reddit based organization which has been cited by the Washington Post.
a. Some lawmakers believe that a death sentence should not be handed down by a jury with a mental health evaluation.
The killer is... Mixing it up this time with a double murder. To be honest, I have waited all season to say that... But anyways, I will start with my theory now, so get ready mister or missus killer because I will amaze you with my amazing theory creating skills. Will you ever win? I hope not, but it would be such a plot twist if only the killer will survive.
The eighth amendment is designed to protect us from cruel and unusual punishment. Conservation of the United States Constitution, and all moral ideologies have been set aside. An old form of barbaric punishment and the saying "eye for an eye" is still being widely accepted by Americans today. The old form of barbaric punishment is capital punishment. No matter how "humane" the death penalty has become, it is still the killing of another human being. When people stand outside prisons and cheer that an individual was murdered, there is a problem. When people justify the killing of another person, there
Capitol punishment, known as the death penalty, is reserved for criminals who have committed the most horrendous crimes known to man. In many states such as Maryland and Vermont this form of punishment as been abolished, but in states such as California and Florida the death penalty is still sentenced. Frist the inmates are sentenced to death row and can spend many years until they get to the actual execution. This form of punishment has sparked thousands of debates all of over the word in regards to morality, the finances of it, the criteria of whom should receive the sentencing. Some say that the death penalty works as a deterrent to crimes, meaning it discourages
