These include contextual issues like a merger, cultural values/differences, norms, ethics, diversity, complexity, geographical/physical location just to mention a few. It also includes team/group dynamics and leadership and, lastly but not least, intrapersonal and interpersonal needs and concerns within most project settings. (Dominick, 2011) A vast number of projects are increasingly relying on the use of teamwork processes to meet the challenges of global competition vis-à-vis the attainment of desired project outcomes. Myriads of project settings rely on teams to increase quality and efficiency, reengineer systems, design and launch products, determine strategy and eventually manage projects. (Guzzo & Dickson, 1996). In response to this challenge, teamwork has been implemented in diverse projects in different countries over the last few years, taking a range of forms in theory and practice (Frobel & Marchington, 2005). Faced with this growing demand for a workforce with teamwork experience, managers are increasingly interested in the teamwork skills, behaviors and attitudes that new project management graduates bring to the workplace. With the use of teams so widespread, project management scholars all over the world will eventually work and interface with teams locally and globally in all types of project settings. In response to these developments, educators, particularly those in business colleges, have put more emphasis
In an age in which people, business, and organizations can communicate even while residing on different sides of the world, globalization has played a major role in the progress of today’s global society. As globalization continues to extend its reach to different parts of the world in different ways, it is clear that it has left a positive mark on the world both culturally and economically while improving international relationships.
A virtual team are a group of people who work interdependently towards a shared purpose across space, time and organization boundary using technology (Edwards & Wilson, 2004). The team members need not to originate from the same organization; it can be collaboration between several organizations.
The effects of globalization in society can be seen every day, but because we are so used to them we sometimes forget that they are happening. Changes in globalization can be very small or very big usually depending on where you live in the world. But no matter how small or how large these changes are affecting the way our world works and grows every day. Globalization affects our daily lives in almost an infinite amount of ways, but mainly in three main areas. The areas with the most effect on globalization are political practices, economical aspects, and socio-cultural traits all of which add up to give countries international status based specifically on how we function as an ever-growing human race.
The background of the topic provides a summary of how and when the virtual project teams began and the challenges that companies underwent before embracing virtual project development. The background tries to set the foundation against the traditional project teams. The body tries to explain in detail on how the virtual project teams work, the pros and cons of using virtual project of employees. The paper has been able to describe the various forms of virtual teams, how they are implemented within an organization, the challenges that an organization may face when making the application of the model and also the advantages or wins associated with the practice. The chapter ends with recommendations with some suggestions on how to incorporate traditional and virtual project to get a successful organization.
This paper draws attention to the detached relationship between the corporate strategy and project management. Solutions offered by various researchers to align both of them are discussed and examine how they could be proposed for the management of international project, in particularly for the construction industry.
Virtual teams are teams that work using the internet to communicate, using Skype for example. They are never in the same room to discuss issues.
Companies these days are turning to project management to consistently deliver business results and to stay ahead of the pack in today’s competitive and chaotic global economy. Project Management is in fact elaborated as project, program and portfolio management. More companies these days clearly sees the payoff from investing time, money and resources to build organizational project management expertise which ultimately benefits the company with greater efficiencies, improved customer and stakeholder satisfaction and greater competitive advantage.
Implementing project management across the organizations helps create a strategic value chain that gives companies an edge on their competitors, particularly in high-risk sectors and markets (PMI, 2014). Changing applications and business environments for project management have pushed the boundaries of the required knowledge and skills beyond what has been the more traditional focus on the technical and administrative procedures and systems associated with project management (Clarke, 2010).
Susan Brock (2003) supports that as the data into valuable corporate information has become more viable through information technologies, the application of IT based projects has risen too (Susan Brock, 2003). The organisations use Information System Projects for either updating, or either upgrading or changing the existing system in order to meet users or customers’ requirements.

Although projects can be found dating back hundreds and thousands of years, project management has become a buzzword in the modern business world. Improved technology has allowed and enabled a vast increase in the number of projects to be completed in the workplace. Projects that would once have taken months to complete now take weeks, and new projects follow on their heels. The latest software makes tracking multiple projects easier, and training courses in project management demonstrate new tricks of the trade. The booming economy of the late 1990s made it feasible, from an economic standpoint, for companies to engage in more new endeavors than ever before. New products, new locations, and enhanced services were all the byproducts of the increase in projects.
Due to the complexity of these projects no one individual alone possesses the knowledge to deal with the issues, a team approach is therefore most beneficial (Meredith, Mantel & Shafer, 2015). To achieve project success in the international marketplace, projects are being run by members of the team who reside in various locations worldwide (Meredith, Mantel & Shafer, 2015). This approach enables individuals to bring their unique skill sets
