Over the course of history, protests have changed the world. Protests are meant to allow people to express their beliefs, ideas, and to let them get their points across on a certain topic they may have a conflict with. They involve groups of people, which can start off as a small group, but then it can grow because they allow people to speak freely on a subject and so more people want to be heard. A protest can be on anything, some examples include protests on age, gender, race, religion, animal rights, or LGBT rights. People do deserve the right to freely protest in their countries, because they are trying to make a change in their lifestyles and stand up for what they believe in, but there are limits to how they can reform their lives and the lives of others. Protests should not involve violence or dangerous acts that can harm citizens or protesters themselves. Citizens should protest peacefully if they can manage to show respect and maturity. Furthermore, protests can change many things so that something …show more content…
They should never bring violence to get attention though, because it is incredibly hazardous and terrifying when people become violent. When they do become violent to themselves and others, not only are they affected, but so are others. A protest can be peaceful and it can still be heard by their audience and others too. Peace shows maturity and thoughtfulness because if you can handle a problem calmly, more people will listen to you and give you respect so that you can explain your beliefs and thoughts. You just have to be able to give good reasons for your protests, not become forceful. Protests have been made all over the world to change a constitution, and investigate deaths in Nepal, and save people from deaths in Syria. A protest does not simply change one person; it can possibly change the whole
Since the beginning of american history there have been peaceful and non peaceful protests. These protests have had valuable effects on American society such as Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks have impacted society greatly and for the better. In my opinion peaceful protests still have negative effects though they are immensely more appropriate than non peaceful protests because peaceful protests often turn violent because people don't know how to act for example Trump Protests.
In the United States, the protest has always been an important tool of democracy, a way for the minority to let itself be heard. Take the Civil Rights movement. Today's race relations are better than they were fifty years ago because a relatively small group of people convinced enough of the country that racism was a disease that would kill everything that made America special.
Protest have been used throughout our nation’s history in order to reform or implement the ideas that seem just to our nation’s people. The history of protest in America would mainly be because of the government, either the government would be at war or it would be legalizing and denying laws people just don’t like. Nowadays there are laws that have established Americans’ right to protest. As indicated by the article, Amending the Protest Law ”On January the Legislative and Constitutional Affairs Committee approved government-drafted changes to the protest law (law no.107/2013) following a Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) verdict on 3 December requiring the Interior Ministry to seek a judicial order before banning any
Peaceful protest leads to both positive and negative impacts on a free society. The main issue of the society isn't just people making bold moves like these, it has to do with people being able to accept them and not deal with it in a violent way, thinking that, that is acceptable and going to solve anything, when it really make it
Peaceful protests, that is a protest without violence, are a way to try and persuade those in power to enact or not enact a certain law. This is known as acts of civil disobedience. A typical example of this are rallies or protests against something, where people gather peacefully for or against the same thing. People engaging in civil disobedience could also engage in vows of silence, marching, fasting, and many other peaceful ways to stand up against the inequalities or injustices that they are experiencing. The reason that this is done and is important is because the other option is to violently protest or cause more problems. This is not a good way to go about it because even if it comes from a justified place of hurt or anger, it could result in more harm and arrests than are already happening. Even if theses protests or marches get intense, fights breaking out can happen but the goal is always to be nonviolent. The reasons that civil disobedience is seen in such a negative light is because many people equate it to the violent examples. They view it as the people who are violently protesting, getting pepper sprayed and arrested by cops. Even that isn’t a justified opinion because those people getting paper sprayed and arrested often times are
A society that evolves according to its needs is one that benefits its people. When people exercise civil disobedience, they are giving more people a chance to view the world from their perspective, which positively impacts society. Again, freedom of expression should not be discouraged, especially when people express their opinions peacefully and respectfully. Because these people want their voices to be heard and listened to, they protest to start a
Throughout our history protesting has always been around. It is part of first amendment rights, like freedom of speech and freedom to peaceably assemble. It is essential for a working democracy. From both sides sometimes protesters get out of line to where it is illegal, or police officials violate the first amendment right. Protesters can get violent, but police can create unconstitutional curfews or use illegal force. Everyone right to speech should be respect by everyone, and is protected by the first amendment
As citizens of a country, the laws should account and be fair for everyone not just a select few. If a group is singled out, then they should have the right to stand up for their rights. Protesting is a powerful way to express a voice and opinion. So long as the protests are peaceful, there is no harm befalling the lawmakers and their peers and therefore no reason to outlaw protests. However it is essential for there to be enough movement and tension to create the booming voice of the people; the people speaking for their rights.
So, while peaceful protest is allowed, and even encouraged sometimes, violence and chaos is never welcomed. For example, one of the most recent protests was on the day of the Inauguration of Donald Trump. Most of the protesters were peaceful and cooperative, some people even say not to judge these pretests based on one burning car, but we have to! For the safety of everybody around, better be too careful than not careful at all. This point is civil disobedience at its worst. All that this violence does is cause a state of chaos and confusion, where then communities are vulnerable, and vandalizing and looting take place. The night of Donald Trump's election, when there was also protests, people were seen burning the United States flag, which is a crime, but not this night when there was already turmoil everywhere you looked. This is how "peaceful" protests can negatively affect a society, because there is not order and only
Peaceful protesting has been a form of displaying a person’s civil rights through the history of America. There have been several demonstrations of non-violent protest and violent protest in America. For an example, during the Civil Rights Movement, there were plenty of protests that were not violent such as sit-ins, boycotts, and marching. The equivalent to those protest in the present is kneeling for the National Anthem. No one is being harmed during this demonstration, it is simply people expressing their civil rights by kneeling for a cause they believe should be bought in the limelight of America’s attention. However, there have been violent protests in America. In 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama, a riot was provoked by bombings that targeted black leaders who fought for racial justice by the Birmingham police who were apart of the Ku Klux Klan. After the attacks, the African-Americans in the area began to riot because of the police involvement, so the bombings were repressed by the Birmingham Police Department. There as has been several violent riots that would follow but the more recent ones in today’s time would be the riot in Ferguson. After a jury decided that Darren Wilson, a police officer in Ferguson, was not guilty of killing the unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, riots were sparked by the
You have those people who want their voices heard in a positive way. You always have to cause destruction and chaos when you feel strong about something; because you think it will help. You can partake in your freedom of speech and peacefully protest. If you do this you do not have to worry about much because it’s your constitutional right to do so. Peaceful protesting in many cases can solve more problems than violence can. It is a simple and easy way to release your frustration in a calm peaceful manner.
The activists feel like this disruptive protest is needed in order to disturb not only the public but to disturb politicians and people in high places. They feel like in this way they will grab the attention, sympathy, and support of citizens and will force politicians to face these issues and propose solutions to them like police reform and will also remind the police force and all other authorities that they are aware of these injustices and that they are never ignored (Mather).
People protest because they feel that something is unfair and unjust, but all in all, more people are hurt after the protest because of the way the police handle them. Peaceful protesting was used by powerful leaders such as Martin Luther King, Ghandi, and Nelson Mandela. It was so effective that without it many of us would not have half as many rights as there is now. Even the protests hundred’s of years ago ended with people getting killed, from the Boston massacre, to the civil rights movement. We should learn from the past and use a new protocol to stop the
Peaceful protest can be an effective and beneficial way to make a point about how many in a population feel strongly about an issue, yet many protests do not go as intended. The idea is to calmly make your opinion known, to get noticed and to demonstrate the sheer mass of opposition to a particular topic. Peaceful protest alone is not harmful, it is simply a group of people
Some people believe that violent protest do not promote change. They believe that it is just a way for the protesters to get on tv.
