The Italian Renaissance was one of the most colorful, vital, and exciting times in history. Renaissance eventually comes from the French word "Renaistre," meaning "to be born again." The Renaissance was a revival or a rebirth of cultural awareness and learning among art, law, language, literature, philosophy, science, and mathematics. This period took place between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. The Renaissance in Italy flourished in the 15th century and spread throughout most of Europe in the 16th century.

The ten events in this book are correctly chosen. However, some of Gillon’s explanations do appear exaggerated. The most blatant example is the chapter entitled, “Gold Rush”. If the book is being true to its title, the impact of the Gold Rush was not unexpected. The Change in music culture has become nothing special compared to initially inconspicuous; Gillon gives several good arguments supporting the ten events in this book.

Between the 1300s and 1500s, Europe experienced a period of cultural rebirth known as the Renaissance, marking the transition from medieval times to modern times. The Renaissance brought new importance to individual expression, self-consciousness and worldly experience.

Rather than reading something that brings you down, or reading something that has no purpose, when you read something inspiring it makes people feel good or encourages them or even makes them smile. Florence Beatrice Price was a meritorious musician, who confronted many challenges in the path to becoming the first African-American woman to have her compositions performed by a well-known symphony. Florence’s began her musical writings at a young age, rapidly progressing into an award-winning, published composer. Although her contributions were eclipsed by the desire for other types of music soon after Ms. Price’s death, her music is worthy of great recognition and her accomplishments are not to be forgotten.

I however, do not think that is a valid reason to say they are similar in any way. The reason being, they provide with different intentions. Rose-Anna obeys and believes in her role as the mother of the family and that is all; Florentine however, sees herself outside of the family sphere. Rose-Anna provides for the family because that is her duty as a mother; to provide for the family in every way she can (cooking, cleaning, sewing, etc). Biographies are full of great information that can often times make history fun and exciting. Historical phenomenon is often portrayed through biographies allowing us to see how society has developed over time and how the past and present may be similar. Although biographies are full of information often times it is impossible to prove them to be true because they aren’t written by the person themselves. Linda Colley’s The ordeal of Elizabeth Marsh is a great example of an exciting biography that allows us to learn about British Imperial Rule through someone else’s eyes.

The Italian and Northern Europe Renaissances were both an important mark in history by changing the ideals of life, thought, culture, and art of the people’s of this time.
