Celebrity Airlines Flight 82181 Found on Celebrity Airlines Flight 82181 were a number of substances brought on by passengers. Given that the crash was ruled a terrorist attack, identification of all substances found on and in the bodies and luggages of the victims needed to be made. To do this, empirical and molecular formulas were put into use when determining substance identities. Each substance was tested to find the percent composition of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen, and then used to find the empirical formula of the substance by using 100 grams of each substance to represent 100% made up by the elements combined. The mass of each element in the substance calculated from the percent was then divided by the molar mass of that …show more content…
Victims number 6 and 10 were both found with matching substances, in their bloodstream and pocket, respectively, composed of 75.42% carbon, 6.63% hydrogen, 8.38% nitrogen, and 9.57% oxygen (Table 2). The steps described above to find the molecular formula were taken, and the molecular formula was found to be C21H22N2O2, or strychnine, commonly known as rat poisoning, a substance highly toxic to humans. From this data, it can be concluded that victim number 10 had murdered victim number 6 with the strychnine, as it was found in victim 10’s pocket and victim 6’s bloodstream, and anyone with any common knowledge or with the ability to read knows not to ingest rat poisoning, making it obvious that victim 6 was murdered. To identify the two victims, any other substances found on their person and in their personal luggage had to be identified and then matched with any prior knowledge of the victims. Victim 6, the murder victim, was found two other substances: C14H18N2O5 , aspartame, and C8H10N4O2 , caffeine, (page 7). Both of these two substances are found in Diet Coke, something the mother of Miley Cyrus said she never travelled without, (page 8). Furthermore, in the luggage of victim 10, a substance with the molecular formula of C12H17NO (page 7), also known as DEET or insect repellent was found. Based off of this evidence, coupled with family interviews, victim
Thomas had just arrived in the Reno-Tahoe international airport. He was with his Aunt Sandy and Uncle Dan. They had just arrived because they were going to see Sandy’s son graduate Top Gun school. Mark, Sandy’s son had been in the Navy and was a Lieutenant. He got chosen to be one of the best 1% of the navy’s fighter pilots. He had gone through the school and was graduating the next day. He was flying a F-18 Super Hornet. When Thomas heard about the trip he knew he had to go. He loved aviation. His mom said he could not go but one day before he left for school he left a note on the counter that changed his mom’s mind. His aunt got him a ticket and they left the next day. Thomas was waiting at the gate to thank the man that had given up his
On September 1, North Carolina man by the name of Matthew James Phelps has been charged with murder after stabbing his wife, Lauren Ashley-Nicole Phelps, to death. Phelps claims he was under the influence of cough and cold medicine and does not recall what time it was when he found his hands and dead wife covered in blood with a bloodied knife nearby. Calling 9-1-1 upon waking up to the gruesome scene, Phelps had sounded dazed and confused, according to the operator, freaking out when he realized what he had done. Taking Coricidin, a cold syrup used to suppress common colds, to fall asleep, Phelps had consumed “more medicine than [he] should have” which had caused a cough-syrup-induced psychosis. However, Coricidin contains an ingredient
While it was suspected that these deaths were suspiciously connected in some way, it was questionable as to how they were connected. However, it was noticed by two firefighters monitoring calls that both families had announced that the victims had ingested Tylenol prior to collapsing. The firefighters, Phillip Cappitelli and Richard Keyworth “call[ed] the coroner who confirms capsules of Tylenol obtained from both victim homes and finds 65 milligrams of cyanide in some of them” (Rowe.)
Observed flight 5990 to DFW at gate B4 being worked by Piedmont agents Chelsey and Jeannette. Agents used many of the elevate behaviors before boarding by greeting customers with a smile, listening to their needs and offering customers options. Agents did not ask if they could be of further assistance. A correct Welcome announcement was made which included information for Basic Economy customers. Several minutes later an announcement was made advising customers they had to “hold off” boarding followed by an apology. Nice job! Boarding began within 10 minutes after the delayed boarding announcement. Agents followed the correct procedures when boarding an UM. The dual lane sign was positioned against the wall and was not used. The sizer was
To begin, the transportation system and the methods they use have greatly impacted both how and where people decide to live. The transportation system is a very important aspect to any nation’s economy. As stated, transportation systems also offer opportunities for terrorists who wish to disrupt and damage transportation systems and injure an immense number of people. In 1985, TWA Flight 847 was hijacked on a flight from Athens to Rome. The plane was overtaken by Shitte Hezbollah terrorists who desperately wanted to know the identity of the passengers with Jewish sounding names. The two terrorists who are of a Lebanese decent that were armed with a 9 millimeter gun and grenades made the plan land in the city of Beirut in Lebanon. As the hijackers
Cox conducted the inventory search, which revealed the following narcotics / paraphernalia in the vehicle:
Poetry isn 't just those long sonnets you had to analyze in high school. It’s a verse, almost like the author is talking directly to you, telling you their story. Emotion pours out of poetry, just as if you were pouring water into a glass. It may get a bad reputation because of the somewhat uninteresting Shakespearean poems, where the language is difficult to understand and difficult to enjoy. Poetry is broad, and can be almost anything rhythmic. There is no topic poetry has to follow. There are no guidelines for poetry. Its just creativity pouring out of the author.
The Rendlesham Forest incident, or better known as it's nickname "Britain's Roswell, occurred over a series of nights in December 1980. According to numerous reports from cops, citizens and military commanders the UK may have dodged a potential UFO nuclear attack 35 years ago.
Forensic science consists of a variety of fields such as in this case Forensic Pathology, Toxicology, and Biology were used to help solve the murder. Forensic Pathology was used to determine the cause of death by conducting an autopsy on the Johnson body. Coming to a conclusion, that Denise Johnson’s cause of death was due to asphyxiation (also known as strangulation)2,9. The pathology unit also determined that her death was a forced and violent death. Given the facts of how the victim died it provides the officers with an idea on how the murder was committed. Secondly Forensic toxicology is the use of toxicology, pharmacology, clinical chemistry and analytical chemistry to help legal and medical investigation of poisoning, death, and drug use. A drug test was conducted on Johnson’s body in order to evaluate the type and amount of illegal or legal drugs that were taken. A drug test can normally detect all prescription drugs, and as well as alcohol and illegal drugs such as, cocaine, heroin, morphine, codeine, antidepressants and phencyclidine. According to Johnson’s toxicology reports, the only drug found in her body was heroine9. Lastly to have a better understanding of the case, it was important to know what had happened to Denise. Therefore the forensic biology unit conducted a rap kit to determine if Johnson was sexually assaulted. The forensic biology division is responsible for applying their biology knowledge to the law enforcement, which also includes forensic
On July 19, 1989 United flight 232, a DC-10 aircraft took off from Denver’s Stapleton International Airport on route to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. The DC-10 aircraft was manufactured by McDonnell Douglas. It has three General Electric CF6-6 engines, two that were wing mounted and one that was tail mounted. The number two engine, located on the tail, had a pre-existing defect introduced when it was manufactured. It was known as a hard alpha inclusion which causes cracks to form early in the lifetime of the fan disks. However, the cracks were too small to detect by the naked eye and overtime grew to a size large enough to bring the plane down on that fatal day.
When Freedom Airlines flight 121 went down over the Pacific Ocean, no one ever expected to find survivors. Seraphina is the only survivor, a stunningly beautiful sixteen year old girl who cannot remember her name or any other details of her life. She was discovered floating among the wreckage, alive, making headlines across the globe. Even more strange is that her body is miraculously unharmed and she has no memories of boarding the plane. No one knows how she survived. And no one can explain why her DNA and fingerprints can’t be found in a single database in the world. She proves to be extremly intelligent and very stong and athletic, and is able to do things that are abnormal. Seraphina struggles to piece together her forgotten past and
The NTSB used every source they had to investigate Alaskan Flight 261, resources that did not even seem applicable. Everything from retrieving the accident to digging into maintenance and company records, also pulling all parts that were left from the wreckage apart and examining them as thorough as possible. Then coming to a conclusion and recreation of what exactly happened prior to and during the accident.
Alaska Airlines Flight 261 was departing from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Seattle, Washington, with a layover stop at San Francisco, California on January 31, 2000. The aircraft was a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 and had 5 crew members and 83 passengers on board at the time of its accident. It was nearly 4 hours into the flight when it crashed into the Pacific Ocean near Anacapa Island, California. All of the passengers and crew members perished. The cause of the accident resulted from an “inflight failure of the horizontal stabilizer trim system jackscrew assembly’s acme nut thread.”(NTSB, 12/10/2002) There were a couple of contributing factors that led to this failure and accident. The first factor is the lubrication intervals at which Alaska
Modern forensic toxicologists and serologists analyze various body fluids, tissues, and organs to detect drugs, poisons, and possible causes of crimes and deaths to aid in the process of criminal investigations. Alcohol/drug, and DNA analysis are some of the primary objectives of the forensic toxicologist and serologist. Advances in scientific research and technologies, and the advent of the forensic laboratory have allowed the forensic toxicologist and serologist to carefully analyze and segregate body fluids excreted by assailants or attackers in varying criminal acts.
Douglas came home to a surprise.” Hello dear, look!”, his mother was in the middle of the room holding an envelope. Douglas had a pretty good idea of what it was, so he rushed over in a panic and grabbed the envelope. He was hesitant on opening it, a slight feeling of fear and excitement ran through his veins. Douglas finally worked up the courage and there it was, he read the words, ACCEPTED. He was so excited he nearly jumped out of his shoes! He danced around the room then went into the kitchen and grabbed his mother so she could dance too. Ever since Douglas was a boy, his dream was to go to Dayton University and become a journalist. He was leaving in three months to go to the University, barely enough time to say goodbye, he thought.
