Ethical issues are a matter that every type of business and economy has to work on at some point. Companies, enterprises, agencies, universities, and schools, they all have to deal with moral and ethical matters, and since eventually most of us will enroll one of them, these issues should be a matter of concern to all of us. In a work environment, persecution, discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying indicate an unethical conduct, and these types of behaviors are certainly difficult to manage in the workplace. Every single person should be aware of its rights and benefits as a worker in a company. A benefit that commonly women get is, “Maternity leave,” or “Family leave.” This an principally significant topic, since in some companies, and corporations this right is not truly respected, and some employees don’t know how to fight for their privileges. According to the American Pregnancy Association, “Maternity leave refers to the period of time that a new mother takes off from work following the birth of her baby. Regardless of the time that an employee has been working in a company, any worker is always eligible for maternity leave. Moreover, in most companies; female employees receive more rights and protections during their pregnancy. A woman is eligible for “Maternity leave” if, “She is absent from the employment for a period not exceeding eight weeks for the purpose of giving birth; or if she gives her employer at least two weeks of notice of her anticipated date of departure and intention to return.” (“Maternity Leave Act”, 2007) Thanks to these numerous regulations and rights, in these specific circumstances the employees have to be treated fairly, and cannot be discriminated.
