Education Policy On The Common Core State Standards

My group and I decided to work with the education policy on the common core state standards. The main purpose was to have high school graduates be ready for college and/or career. The common core was implemented because of the challenges that high school graduates were facing once they were out of high school and into college and noticed that they weren’t ready. The common core has benefited some students, but it has also failed others. I will go over the history, implementations, effectiveness, and my personal suggestions on this topic.

These standards are starting in the early grade levels and are essentially given the teachers time to teach them what is needed to achieve the goal and master the standards that are being implemented for them. Although this is being implemented at schools the main goal is to have not only the student, but also the parent and the teacher all be on the same page to help prepare the student to successfully achieve the goals so that every year they continue to advance and be able to graduate high school and go to college. Although there is a plan of action to achieve college career readiness after high school teachers don’t have a set of defined standards on how to teach or what materials to use to help accomplish these goals. These goals are also being implemented to those with special needs and English language learners. So this is what is expected from the students for the (ELA) English Language Arts Standards: The Common Core asks students to read stories and literature, as well as more complex texts that provide facts and background knowledge in areas such as science and social studies.
