The variable age is the independent variable and is of a ratio level of measurement (Loiselle et al., 2011). The measure of central tendency to describe age in table 1.2 are the mean of 57.62 which is the average age, the median which is the middle score within the distribution when all scores are organized of 58.5 and the mode of 58 which is the most frequently occurring age (Loiselle et al., 2011). …show more content…

The kurtosis has a large negative value which is representative of a flatter curve also know as playkurtic (Salkind, 2013).
The average deviation of scores from the sample mean is 16.26. In order to calculate if there any extreme ages, any ages that occurs below -2SD and above +2SD would be considered extreme and occurs 5 out of 100 cases (Loiselle et al., 2011). Scores that are between -2SD and + 2SD occurs 95 out of 100 cases (Loiselle et al., 2011). At –2SD the value is 25.10 and at +2SD the score is 90.14, in table 1.2 the minimum age is 22 and the maximum age is 91, therefore, there is an extreme score which is an age of 22 which is below -2SD (Loiselle et al., 2011). Thus, the median would be the preferred measures of central tendency to describe the sample as the median is insensitive to extreme scores (Loiselle et al., 2011).

The variable diastolic blood pressure measures of central tendency are the mean of 87.58, the median of 88 and the mode of 88 (Salkind, 2013). The measure of variability includes a range of 62 with a minimum of 58 and a maximum of 120 diastolic blood pressure,
