In life, we are often capable of much more than we ever know. Our bodies and minds will automatically choose the path of least résistance, but when we have the right amount of motivation and encouragement, we can surpass any roadblock. The Module Two introductory video discussed the 33%-33%-33% principle. Thirty-three percent of people will simply disagree with the on decisions being made. Another thirty-three percent will agree, and the last thirty-three percent will not care. In order to shift mindsets, create buy-in, and trust the decision-maker’s intentions, it is imperative that he or she is organized, thoughtful, and caring during the decision-making process. This case study presents a problem regarding lack of student growth and …show more content…
Slide set two discussed the normative model. This would help this administrator identify, analyze, and develop solutions to the issue of a mediocre scope and sequence chart. A Garbage Can model will simply not do. Teachers need to understand the problem before taking action. Everything we do in education must be purposeful. Therefore, an effective leader must be able to communicate the issues and solutions with clarity and precision. In slide set three, advice was given stating, “Anything worth making a decision over is worth time, effort, and commitment.” This is an adaptive problem that will require time, thought, input, and empowerment of both the faculty and …show more content…
In the article, “Who Decides What,” the principal reminded readers about the importance of clarification necessary about the amount of autonomy given to teachers. In this case, there needs to be an expectation that rigor must increase in the scope and sequence. MindTools.com published an article entitle, “The Vroom-Yetton-Jago Decision Model.” In the article, the author wrote that one shouldn’t make autocratic decisions when team acceptance is crucial for a successful outcome. Therefore, the administrator should not be so authoritative that he or she shuts down any potential for change. As chapter six states in Practicing the Art of Leadership, one way to motivate facility is through fair process. Changing instruction and achievement expectations is naturally going to be a participatory effort. The Team Decision Making Inventory #7 noted the advantage of authority rule with discussion. It gains commitment from all team members, develops a lively discussion on the issues using the skills and knowledge of all team members, and is clear on who is accountable for the decisions of the team. This is ultimately what needs to happen in this case study situation. It will take a group effort to initiate change, and decision-making should include the people who the decisions are directly
“Give teachers the task of setting goals and strategies which they will use to minimize transitions and maximize instruction” (Time & Learning, 2011).
In the case study with Principal Miller, he had to make a decision to change the instruction program or to keep it. There was a group of parents that wanted students grouped by their ability. The other group of parents wanted the instruction to stay the same. Principal Miller
Over the last thirty years, the health care system has incurred dramatic changes, resulting in new advances in technology and medical theories. Greater demand for quality care by consumers, more knowledgeable patients, remarkable disease processes, shorter hospitalizations, and the continuing pressure to lower health care costs are all contributing factors in the necessary changes to the nursing practice. In order for nurses to deliver optimum care, they must develop a higher quality of thinking capability. We will review the information given in this research paper to discuss the impact of critical thinking in the nursing profession, as well as the various strategies / techniques used in assisting
For the following hypothetical cases, determine the type (s) tests and method(s) of assessment that you would apply. All of the information you need is in chapter 4 of your textbook.
Beliefs, attitudes and values are three little words that have and make a massive impact on who we are as individuals, who we are as people, and even how the world is viewed by ourselves and others. A belief is something that individuals or groups think, such as believing in a god. Where a Value would be the living life in the ways a religion expects, this value will be made from the belief that the person or group has in their God. The attitude towards this would be the feelings, beliefs and behaviour tendencies towards this, for example praying, reading the holy book,
When a person, such as Ryan, is considering applying to a college or university there can be many psychological factors that can play a part in determining your actions. The things you become exposed to, assumptions about people, and your motivations are all attributing to our life decisions.
1. My current situation with work isn't that great. I told my boss that I have school and that is my main focus this fall. They really want me to work so they can get things done. The problem is they are going to give me the crappy jobs that nobody wants. Why would I go back when I would be given the crappy jobs to do? I currently have enough money to cover my schooling costs. It bothers me that they can't hire someone else. It's almost like they expect me to come back and work.
Dixie: Amanda, I agree with you that in making personal decisions that I use critical thinking most of the time. It take me time to decide what I want and how the outcome will be. I find that if I don’t use critical thinking the outcome could be way different. Does it take you a long time to make a decision?
1.) The concept that I have acquired and would like to discuss is the emotional bank account. The emotional bank account is similar to a financial institutions bank account. In an emotional bank account, these transactions are done in our minds not on a physical ledger. An emotional deposit could be characterized as an act of courtesy, honesty, always keeping commitments or an act of kindness. These deposits like a bank deposit add to the balance. A withdrawal can occur just like in a financial institution taking away from your reserve balance. An emotional withdrawal could be anything from being disrespectful, ignoring someone,
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning When I read that quote, I think of being a determined person with self-confidence. At the beginning of my junior year in high school, I was given a personal quiz determining whether you are a “D”, “S”, “I” or “C”. the directions were to draw a circle, and to draw a vertical line. The top half was extrovert, and the bottom half was introvert. I shaded in the top half because I am very outgoing person. the next step was to draw a horizontal line. the right side was task, and the left side was people. I choose the left side because I can get things done the way things need to be done. when all
The seventh step in the model of critical thinking is the logical reasoning of what occurs after we come to a conclusion. Implications are the claims that follow from inferences and assumptions that were made (Foundation for Critical Thinking, 2007). Consequences are what happens when we act on those inferences and assumptions (Foundation for Critical Thinking, 2007). The letter from Mr. Managadze implies that in order to be successful in life, one most let go of preconceived notions of success embedded in higher education to follow your dreams. The author also implies that having a degree would have been a hindrance to his success as an entrepreneur as it would have been used as an escape plan if his ideas led to failure. This implication
“Effective instructional leadership requires a complex set of relationships between principals and their beliefs and the surrounding environments of the school… all must be taken into account” (Hughes, Norris & Ubben, 2011, pg. 31). Before I can initiate the possibility of change, an evaluation of the scope of the need. I need to ask the stakeholders the following questions “Why is the change needed? What will it mean for us and our students when the change comes about? Is what we’re being asked to do possible? Can we see it in practice? How will we develop the skills necessary to enact the change” (Tomlinson, 2008, pg. 43)?
The client is an 18 year-old high school graduate. He self-reported did “OK” in high school, B – C, student, but did well enough on his standardized tests to be admitted to the colleges where he applied. Despite having the opportunity to go to college he reported hating school and did not enroll. He currently works with an independent contractor, performing painting, light carpentry and electrical work. His previous work experiences have included food service at a pool snack bar, and field and maintenance work for a firm owning a large collection of athletic complexes. He has also worked in a warehouse, performing inventory, cleaning and maintenance jobs. He is pleased with the income he is currently making, but realizes
What is Critical Thinking? According to (Eder & Paul, 2004), “critical thinking is the ability and disposition to improve one’s thinking by systematically subjecting it to intellectual self-assessment” (Par. 6). Critical thinking is not a skill that someone can achieve all at once. In order to become a developed critical thinker, there are different levels of intellectual development one must pass through to improve their thinking capabilities. Per (Eder & Paul, 2004), there are six stages of critical thinking development. In the following paragraphs, I will summarize the six stages of critical thinking development. Then, I will explain which stage describes my current level of thinking and why
I like the analogy you used with baking the cake and not having icing, to explain the relationship between language and thinking. The cake will be incomplete without the icing, and without thinking what we are going to say, the language used can be inappropriate or totally make no sense. Critical thinking is crucial before we say something, we want to make sure we get our message across clearly with the proper language, it will avoid a lot of misunderstandings.
