Critical thinking is using rational thoughts to effectively problem solve, answer a question or make a statement. Critical thinking allows intake of information using good judgment and analyzing the necessary steps to have a successful outcome. Critical thinking is skillful, responsible thinking that is conclusive to a good judgment because it is sensitive to context, relies on criteria, and is self-correcting (Nosich, 2012). However, we some individuals speak they miss the message, because active listening is required. The prominent features of critical thinking are the following: reflective, involves standards, is authentic, and is reasonable. That leads people into a pattern of their thoughts they get accustomed to and adapt to this behavior. The impediment that I chose are All-or Nothing-Thinking and Fears. I want to use an example through a conversation I had with another African American online. He stated, the Republicans are not for people of color, they take everything away from us, and Democrats can’t help DACA or #Stop the gun violence moment. I explained that that is stereotyping a group of people when we do not have all the facts. The Republicans and Democrats equally share fault due to each party want other bills signed instead of the issue at hand. I am not an All-or-Nothing -Thinking, because a person must stand up and not agree, because they do not want to be looked upon as different. Furthermore, my fears are in a relationship or school because it is the unknown and people can change at any time.
