This paves way to question the existence of God, the existence of an omnipotent and omniscient being. St. Anselm’s argument was in cohesion with this view. There is no definitive description of God in any book. His physical appearance is not defined, and this is what makes him an ultimate being. If one attributes human qualities to God, then there will be several interpretations of God, thus there will no longer be “one” God, rather many gods. God needs to be mystified and secret in order to make him become God. A general definition of god is “a supernatural being or spirit worshipped as having power over nature or human fortunes; a deity.” There is no physical description associated to God, this results from the limit of human reason because one cannot describe or imagine something that they have never seen or …show more content…

However, belief in God requires faith. Faith is needed in order for one to accept the existence of the Divine. The existence of God is controversial (and unlikely) for one who has no basis of faith. This is because reason cannot explain faith. Reason cannot explain the existence of something that it has no basis for. This relates back to Descartes “cogito ergo sum,” meaning, “I think, therefore I am.” Although Descartes was concerned with knowledge of the individual, this can relate to God. To think that there exists a God inherently assumes that there is such a force in the universe. Given that religion is a collective practice and an act of obedience to God performed by many people for centuries, it seems horrendous to assume that so many people have been wrong about their experience and belief.
