Oct. 21, 1p.m. Communication 110 class in the regular classroom in Rhyne building. Tables set in one big circle, some curtains are lowered and the temperature in the room is warm enough to wear a t-shirt. All students are seated and ready to explore the beauty of being a journalist. But something unexpected happened. White male about 40 years old and 5 feet 8 inches tall walked into the classroom. Freely and slightly swaying he approached the table in the middle of the room. His outfit is more than extravagant. Looking like Elvis Presley the man wears white bodysuit that reflects light showing glare. The suit sits quite tight. You can tell it by looking at his jeans that’s showing under the white pants, lover that the ankles. The suit has …show more content…
After entering the room, he quickly approaches the table and puts his strange set on the table. He looked like he knows what he is doing, but in fact, all his actions were quite stupid. He pulled an egg carton out of the bag. It had two lonely eggs in it, which he took and cracked into the empty silver pot. It looked funny for the students, but the guy behaved as he does this weird procedure every day of his life. After separating the egg from its shell Elvis looked at the eggs in his pot and started to stir the eggs shaking the pot. It didn’t last long; a few second after he imperturbably looked at the teacher, then at the whole class noticing a few smiles among the students, took his shopping bag, lifted his chin up and with the same freely walk, looking like a poseur, he walked out of class. The guy didn’t say a word. It was complete silence during the whole period of his performance. Maybe once you could’ve heard constrained chuckle from one of the students but that was it. Complete silence.
What was it? That’s our new assignment for the next class. All the students got their sheets with the description of the assignments and all I could hear was “are you kidding

Communication embodies the ability for one to convey a message through the use of verbals (words) and non-verbals (behaviours) in a process to compare, transmit and interpret messages. Garside and Kleiner (2007) portrays communication as sharing thoughts and feelings with other people. For this process to be effective the message should be transmitted with "maximum accuracy and minimum effort" (Garside and Kleiner 2007) with "mindfulness" (Burgoon, Bieger and Waldron 2002) from both parties. Mindfulness requires the sender and receiver to be alert to "the content, situation and sequence of verbal messages, as well as the paralinguistic cues, gestures, facial expression, body movements and cues produced by the physical environment that
In an online class setting, it can be very challenging to work on a group project that requires the participation of every group member and completing the project on time. This group project was successful one each individual had because we used proper communication to assign tasks, roles, and deadline to complete the project.

During the course of this semester; the variety of writing styles and essays assigned to me in my communication skills class encouraged the development of my writing skills, as well as provided me with more self-assurance in my abilities. My writing, research, and presentation abilities enhanced through practice, determination, and the understanding I gained during this course. With every single writing assignment, I learned new innovative approaches and skills, which enhanced my abilities to improve my thoughts logically, enabling me to write more clearly, and to organize my papers more effectively. At the beginning of this semester; despite the fact that I already knew the terminology MAP: message, audience, purpose; I never really
For the past twelve years, COM 434 Radio/TV Practicum has gone through many changes, but the learning that goes on in the classroom and in the television studio remains the same. In this essay, I intend to reflect on a situation I encountered during my first community placement I had the opportunity to develop my communication skills not just theoretically but also practically, facing a real life environment. My placement made me aware of the importance of interpersonal and communication skills which are very important in the delivery of care. Throughout my nursing career, I will be encouraged to develop reflective practice skills and become a reflective practitioner. Reflection refers to a series of steps that you may take to question and explore an experience with the aim of learning from it. I will discuss the importance of communication in order to maintain a therapeutic relationship.

Interactions between teachers and students in regards to teacher talk is one of the most important learning tools used in the classroom. Talk moves are tools for building an environment that serves a range of productive interactional, social and intellectual learning functions in the classroom (Edwards-Groves, 2014). They are enabled and constrained by the “sayings, doings and relatings present in classrooms” and prompt responses from students (Edwards-Groves, 2014, p1). Teacher talk is a large part of how students learn, through models such as ‘Initiate, Respond, Evaluate’ (IRE). The IRE model involved the teacher asking questions and giving appropriate feedback to the student’s response to help them understand the reasons behind their response. The Scaffolding Interaction Cycle (SIC) is another important tool, which involved teachers scaffolding a students’ response to engage higher learning functions. It is important to consider Bull and Anstey’s three-style model, consisting of pedagogy of school, pedagogy of literacy lessons and pedagogy of literacy learning (Anstey and Bull, 1996). Pedagogy of school involves the teacher and the student conversing in a Q&A like manner, or a ‘guess-what’s-in-my-head’ approach taken by the teacher. The pedagogy of literacy lessons involves the students carrying out the teacher’s instructions but not making the connection to what they are learning. There is a time where these styles may be useful, but

In interpersonal communication there are many theories that are similar yet different in many ways. The theories can be combined to describe people and how those people interact and communicate with each other. Many of these theories help explain how people in society form impressions of others, how they maintain these impressions, why people interact with certain people in society, and how people will use these impressions that they have formed later on in life. These theories also help people to better understand themselves, to better understand interpersonal communication, and to better understand people in general. There are two theories in interpersonal communication that, despite their differences, can go hand in hand. The first is
