Can a nation justify using military force? A very respected English leader Winston Churchill once told the people of England that, “We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be we shall fight on the beaches we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.” In contraction, John F. Kennedy uttered, “Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind.” Over the course of history, millions of people were murdered for the sake of land, resources, and money. In comparison, war been fought to save lives and for self-defense. In some cases, war can be justified.

As Thomas Jefferson once exclaimed, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” Jefferson thought liberty was worth men to die for since it allowed liberty to remain. Abraham Lincoln, a wise United States president once declared in the Gettysburg Address about civil war saying, “that these dead shall not have died in vain that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom.” To Abraham the only way to justify the deaths of Gettysburg and of during the Civil War is the new birth of freedom for all men. Patrick Henry once loudly declared, “Give me liberty or give death.” The reason he demanded for liberty or death because of the fact, “There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains have been forged! There clanking on the plains of Boston. The war is inevitable.” These wise men thought that people should defend themselves from tyrants and also preserve and defend liberty no matter the cost. For they thought having no liberty was being a slave so they were willing to die protecting and granting it to others. In support of Liberty, Thomas Jefferson claimed that “God who gave us life gave us liberty.” Since God granted Liberty according to American founding father one should die protecting the liberty which God gave them because the Bible claims in Second Corinthians chapter three verse seven says “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is
