In every state, to be eligible for certification you must be 18 years of age or older and you must have completed high school and obtained a diploma. Technology is constantly being invented, improved and replaced and when taking care of something as important as life, staying up to date on techniques and current on equipment is not only essential, but mandatory as recertification is required every 2 years in every state.
