The Hardships, struggles, and set backs faced by individuals in society have been portrayed in hundreds of films produced throughout the years. Antwone Fisher is one of those movies that take a first person look on the past and present hardships faced by a United States Navy sailor. Fisher’s struggle begins before he was born, continues through adolescents and he is burdened with these feelings in adulthood.

In the movie “Antwone Fisher” it’s clear that Antwone presents with several overlapping disorders, Post-traumatic Disorder, generalized anxiety disorders and depression. He suffered psychological, verbal, physical and sexual abuse early in his childhood. The main character Antwone “Fish” Fisher is a 25-year-old African American male in the United States Navy. Antwone relives and processes his traumatic past with the Navy psychiatrist, Dr. Davenport, after being demoted and restricted to the ship for assault on a superior officer (Black, Washington, 2002). Dr. Davenport is ordered to provide Antwone with three sessions to assess his mental health for reinstatement to active duty (Black, Washington, 2002). Antwone relates his aggressive behavior to racial remarks he endured from a White peer (Black, Washington, 2002).
