Introduction There are many different broad definitions of stress and how to cope with it, known as stress management. Stress affects health in a number of ways. It is defined by James (2011) as pressure or tension that comes in many shapes and forms and furthermore the body and mind in particular reacts psychologically and even emotionally. How Stress Affects Health This can affect how an individual feels, think and behave. Signs and symptoms can include sleeping problems, loss of appetite and difficulty concentrating. Stress can usually cause high blood pressure. Although stress cannot be avoided there are ways to adapting to it effectively. Stress can be caused in the working and even in the academic environment which is why the aim of this annotated bibliography will advise on how to manage and cope with stress in an academic environment from different authors and researchers with the conclusion of whether it is a useful advice and tool for reducing and relieving stress symptoms. Importance of Stress Management It is important to know how to manage stress in academic life as it is learning about how to balance work and academic life. It is also important for students after graduating and creates self-awareness such as weakness in them. Tummers (2013) suggest that effective stress management can have a positive impact on health to prevent psychological and mental health illnesses.
