The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank highlights Anne and Peter’s contrasting outlooks on the war and their imprisonment in the Secret Annex. Anne uses nature and her connections to her life and the lives of others to understand and appreciate the world around her in a positive aspect. On the other hand, Peter’s anger at the Nazis for persecuting and restricting the rights of Jews and his frustration for having to stay cooped up in the Secret Annex causes him to view their situation in a negative aspect. The Diary of Anne Frank shows that even though there is so much evil in the world, ultimately, goodness, honesty, and morality will triumph because Anne waits to witness a change in the world and constantly hopes for a better tomorrow.

It’ll pass, maybe not for hundreds of years, but someday… Peter: I want to see something now . . . Not a thousand years from now… Anne: But, Peter, if you’d only look at it as part of a great pattern . . . that we’re just a little minute in the life . . .” From this quote, Peter’s and Anne’s contrasting views on their fate are shown. Anne believes that the world is going through a phase just as she did when she treated her mother unfairly. Just as how Anne was able to learn to treat her mother fairly, she believed that the world will come to treating people fairly. It may take hundreds of years for the brighter phase to arrive, but in the meantime, there is hope that the dark phase will end. The metaphor Anne uses to compare the Holocaust to a phase is a method for Anne to explain to Peter that although their situation is terrible now, it will become better. To Anne, the war is a tiny aspect of a great pattern where the past two years have just been a small portion of their lives and that the blissful years before going into hiding will come again. On the contrary, Peter is fed up with being locked up in the Secret Annex and does not want to wait another moment to see a change in the world. He believes he has been held captive for enough time and is demanding to see a change of heart in the Nazis. His anger and frustration unleash and reveals his pessimistic and hopeless side
Peter was depressed about his situation and was very shy. That was until Anne brought some joy in his life. She talked to him constantly and enjoyed his company, as he enjoyed hers. The first connection between Peter and Anne is when they first moved in. Peter got a pocket knife and cut out the yellow Star of David and threw it in a fire. Anne cut hers out too but couldn't throw it in. She still held onto it even though the Nazi's forced them to wear it. This shows that she still cares about her religion, even though it was used against her. She said, "It's funny, I can't throw mine away. I don't know why." Peter was confused at first but just went along with it. Eventually, their hatred turned into passion and that turned into love. Sadly they'd die before they would get
To begin with, Anne and Peter’s personalities have many similarities and differences. Anne is very outgoing, talkative, and optimistic. On page 728 Anne is talking to Mr.Dussel and in their conversation about allergies she says, “How dreadful. You must be terribly lonely”. If Anne was outgoing she probably wouldn't have had the courage to talk to Mr.Dussel like that, or at all. On the other hand, Peter's personality is quiet, respectful, and more reserved than Anne’s. When Anne gave Peter a present for Mousci, he said
Don’t you hate it when your family and strangers treat you in a harsh way. Anne Frank was treated harshly by some people in the secret annex people would yell at her call her spoiled lazy and was always telling her what to do. But some people treated her nicely like Peter VanDaan and her dad in a way that made her feel loved by some people around her. Anne was a twelve year old girl when she was forced into hiding because she was a Jew in Nazi territory during WW2. Anne is treated by the people in the annex in many ways and that effects her character in such a way that changes her character.
In the annex, Anne had many types of relationships with very few people. At first she didn’t like Peter Van Daan, because he was so shy and pessimistic. But as time wore on, she got closer and closer to Peter, and had a very broad love. Alas, this love did not last. Anne became annoyed with Peter, because he was so lost in her beauty and intelligence that he wouldn’t listen to her or give her any space. Her father, Pim or Otto, would always smother her with “understanding” but he never really knew how she felt. He would sympathetically explain to her that,”It’ll pass,” and that,”It’s just a phase.” Anne, however, wouldn’t have it. She wanted to be her own person, leave her own mark on the world. “I want to go on living, even after I die.”-Anne Frank confided in her diary. Edith, Anne’s mother, tried to get close to Anne and be what a mother is supposed to be, a supporter, and friend; a shoulder to cry on and a person who sees the best in you even at your worst. But Anne didn’t want to let her in, because when she did her mother judged her and put her down; made her feel like there was something erroneous about herself. Most people in my grade are in some kind of relationship.
Peter is quiet and a shy boy. He has many duties chopping wood, fetching vegetables and potatoes from downstairs, and looking out for his cat. Anne thought he was boring and awkward. She later thought different and in up falling in love with him after she found him as a decent boy.
In the Diary of Anne Frank, the two characters I chose to compare and contrast are Mrs. Frank and Mrs. Van Daan. These two ladies are similar and different in many ways. They are both middle aged women that live in Amsterdam. When the Holocaust began in 1939, Mrs. Frank and Mrs. Van Daan moved into the secret Annex with their families.
I picked this quote, because in this scene Peter is seen cutting off his Star of David by Anne, and he is confused as to why Anne hesitates to get rid of the thing that has categorized her for her whole life. Peter feels that now he doesn't have to be imprisoned by the patch that he is forced to wear.
This is when Anne and Peter have a small conversation in Peter’s bedroom. Anne reminisces while she gleams at the pictures hanging on Peter’s wall. She remember that she won one of the pictures with one of her friends, Jopie, before the war. Anne along with Peter, discussed what they wanted to do once the war is over, when they are grown up. Anne said that she wanted to become a journalist, because she has a passion for writing. Peter said that he’d rather do something on a farm that doesn’t take a lot of thought. This supports the theme of everyone needs someone with whom to share life’s experiences. Anne and Peter talk about their aspirations, and share this time with each other, really telling the other person how they truly feel. Sharing time with Peter helped Anne realize how she had changed during the experience of living with seven other
During the years of the Holocaust, nearly six million people died and experienced great grief. Among the hundreds of people who went into hiding, Anne Frank’s diary which contained information about her experience as a victim alarmed many in the world and has left a big impact. The Diary of Anne Frank is a reminiscence that shows the diverse aspects of the victims that experienced the Holocaust, and the interactions, bondings, and conflicts they went through during the event. The two members, Anne Frank and Peter VanDaan share conspicuous differences, but also similarities that are clearly exemplified throughout the play, First and foremost, Anne Frank and Peter VanDaan are from two different families who has opposing dispositions. Anne
It is undeniable that Holocaust was terrible, it is important to for us today, to resist the desire to prejudge the world based on a singular event in history or even a few individuals among the whole of mankind. Similarly, even though Peter is pessimistic about his persecution and people in general, Anne is compelled to persuade him that the glass is always half full: “When I think of these good things, I’m not afraid anymore... I find myself, and God, and I...” (Anne, pg. 43). Anne's hope in the goodness of people shows her perspective and keeps her from having fear, allowing her to be more positive about her situation.
Another example to why Peter is not very kind to Anne at the beginning, is when she tries to touch his cat. Peter grabs the cat and says that He doesn't like ‘strangers’. “He is a tom. He does not like strangers” (Page 708).Finally when
The play version of The Diary Of Anne Frank tells the story of a young that has gone into hiding from the ss officers.in this play, anne struggles with growing up in the attic with seven other people and she is trying to fight for her independance. Then in the movie version of anne's life there are some differences and similarities of anne's life. In this movie anne is having trouble living in the same little attic with other people sharing rooms and striving to find her way to living through it all of her life living in that attic. Although the play and the movie are the same and different like the setting, both movie and play they have the some conflicts.
Anne’s view of women is that she believes that we can do & be whatever their heart desires. I feel like Anne thinks that women have the right to not have to stay home & cook and clean all of the time. I personally believe that Anne was justified to arguing with an adult because she was sticking up for what she
d. The Franks go into hiding. ____ 33. What does Anne mean when she says the following line? “The world is going through a phase, the way I was with mother.” a. She believes that good will win out in the end,
Anne said “I’m going to be remarkable! I’m going to Paris... I’m going to be a famous dancer or singer...or something wonderful.” this quote proves how Anne believes that they are one day going to be free of the Annex and that she is going to move into the future with hope. Not only does this quote show how Anne believes in the future, it also proves how Anne believes in herself and that she can succeed in life when she is older and she doesn’t have to be compared to her sister or Peter.
