Animal Farm

Animal Farm is used as a literary device to symbolize the rise of Soviet Communism in an animal based story. In a more broad perspective, it is also a metaphor for human society and government, no matter the form. The pigs show the nearly inevitable development of tyranny in a the upper, more powerful classes, and how this is detrimental to the integrity of democracy and freedom. On the other hand, the lower class animals are used to display the dangers of having a naive, or uneducated working class that allows itself to be manipulated and lied to by the people that reside above them in the social

Animal Farm begins on Manor Farm, where overworked, tired, and hungry animals are unhappy in the conditions that they are in, but when an old boar named Old Major introduces the idea of a rebellion and encourages the animals to take control over the farm, the animals begin an uprising against the humans, taking control over the land and renaming the farm “Animal Farm.” However, greedy and corrupt leaders rise to power and turn a once prosperous farm, into a nightmare. In Animal Farm, George Orwell asserts the idea that absolute power results in corruption. Napoleon and the other pigs, interested in remaining superior, persuades the other animals by using intimidation and emotional appeals in order to keep control of the gullible animals.

As the book progresses Orwell uses many types of literary devices to communicate his opinions and thoughts specifically about the government in the society. In Animal Farm Orwell uses satire through the animal allegory, and irony, commenting on the the Russian Revolution, to show a connection between the individuals of a society and a totalitarian government and to create a cautionary tale that warns the readers about abuse of power.

This allegory about the Russian Revolution is delivered to the audience in a story about a diverse group of animals on a farm in England who use the words of an old pig to come up with the concept of ‘Animalism’ and rebel against their human master and begin to run the farm themselves. In the development of their supposed utopia, several problems arise and a dystopic reality sets in. by using the techniques of negative characterisation, anthropomorphism and dystopia, Orwell explores the ideas of power and control through manipulation and through this positions the audience to understand that the characteristics of greed, manipulation and violence are animalistic qualities which make us less than human.

Pigs, the smartest of the animals, find themselves in charge of these freed beasts. The theme of the book centers on the unfair rule that the higher class of pig has placed upon the less intelligent animals. With the great power given to the swine, they begin to emulate the humans that they once wanted to eradicate.

After the animal uprising on the farm, a rule system is put in place, and all animals prosper under the equality of their newfound society. Three pigs, Squealer, Snowball, and Napoleon all establish themselves as important figures of power on the farm. “EVIDENCE.” They are powerful right from the start, for they were the ones who proposed the uprising in the first place. Each and every animal has their own job and place under “Animalism”, which were the general rules of the farm animals new lives. “EVIDENCE.” No animals are corrupted or suppressed by other animals, and life for them is going just swimmingly. Every animal is living its ideal life, all equal parts of the society that they helped make.

Animal Farm by George Orwell guides the reader through the tale of a farm that was overthrown by the animals on the farm. Although the original commandments for the farm ruled by the animals were just, when the pioneer of the revolution dies, everything changes for the worse. Two pigs gain control of the farm after the pioneers death, but they are unable to rule collaboratively, so one of the pigs is exiled and the power hungry pig gains full control. As the years progress on the farm, the power hungry pigs become more and more like the humans they overthrew. The animals on the farm were in much worse condition after the rule of the pigs than they were before.

In the movie, towards the beginning, the animals on the farm, especially the pigs wanted a change with their standards of living. So they decided to get everyone to remove the Farmer. I think of this as in Marxism the people trying to get rid of the government. They held a meeting to decide what to do and all of the pigs sat in the front all looking for the best spot. I also translate this to be the opposite of Marxism because they thought higher than everyone else, which is not Marxism where everyone is equal.

This novel talks about a group of animals that overrule a farm owned by a man named Mr .Jones, but the animals face many corrupt rules, freedom rights, enemies, and arguments between one another. The farm becomes overruled by a pig named Napoleon, and the animals are afraid to go against him. Napoleon soon acts like Mr.Jones and the animals freedom is getting taken away from their hands. The novel's main message was to believe those are seeking the truth- doubt those who find it. The novel relates to the theme because between all of the animals, their was many that were not being true to each other and the main character of the story was trying to lure the animals in a plan once he found out he could takeover the farm, just like how it was in the beginning when Mr. Jones owned the farm.
