Introduction: Action research is a structured process of inquiry by and for the person taking the action. The primary reason for doing this study is to assist the person conducting the study to improve or refine an issue seen to need improvement. The Action Research Project that I conducted was fun because I was working with 5th grade students and they still have some innocence left and they enjoy and are excited about participating in projects that I have worked on this semester. I fear that they were more excited about participating than actually participating.
The challenges I faced during this project were that I did not have as many students as I would have liked for participation and data analysis. The spring semester is the time that teachers are conducting benchmark testing and preparing for the STAAR standardized tests. My mentor teacher assisted me in selecting students that she had observed as not having a huge interest in reading. Unfortunately the students chosen were ones that required intensive tutoring in preparation for the STAAR tests. This was interesting in that students that struggled on the benchmarks and standardized tests were ones that were not motivated readers.
Action Research Question: My initial action research question was: What is the impact of allowing students to choose texts based on their interests on their attitudes about reading? Dr. Stufft felt that this question was a too broad for a study so I modified my question to read: How
I plan to use the input and assistance of my principal, administration, and other colleagues to assist me with necessary portions of my action research project. I will develop a written plan of action further in the project, monitor the project reflective, and prepare a research summary research report of the results of my action research project addressing the effectiveness of the implementation of the PBIS program at Otter Creek Middle School. My plans are for my research to be implemented further along with my principal internship after I have completed the course as well.
Amanda talked about how she used the action research to develop and increase professionalism of both early childhood researchers and practitioners by using the teaching techniques and strategies to support the implement of the research project, using the cycle of reflection and analysing the data, communicating with early childhood teachers to reflect and build skills in their teaching. She developed a scale where she could analyse children’s interests,
Based on my prior knowledge and this week’s resource, I see a little clear why action research can help me address the needs of my students better. This week I have learned the difference between action research/teacher inquiry and education traditional research. Also, I have learned the relationship between action research and teacher professional growth and decision making. Last, I have been able to see what teacher inquiry/action research look like, how they are similar and different.
In order for a researcher to conduct an action research analysis several factors must be determined. The specific purpose for the research, the components, and stakeholders. My action research project is to address a specific problem my agency has with employee retention within the patrol division during the past three years. In conducting a critical mass analysis it is important to determine who has influence and can assist with making suggestions on changes or give necessary data. Stringer (2007) states, "action research is a systematic approach to investigation
Research is defined as a ‘systematic, critical and self-critical enquiry that aims to contribute to the advancement of knowledge’ (Stenhouse cited by Grigg, 2015). Critics argue that professional enquiry in the teaching industry is lacking in teachers using action research on a regular basis, which ultimately would improve the quality of teaching (Burgess cited by Grigg, 2015). However, as educational theory is always changing

I performed this action research project at River Community College in West Michigan. The community college provided educational opportunities to the
Lastly, I believe that students would benefit from conducting an action research project in a group versus completing a project alone. During our program we learned about allowing for different formats during assessment or classroom activities. Therefore, I believe that some students may have preferred working with a group on such a significant project. The fact that students would be allowed to work with people from different backgrounds and with different personality types to complete a project would equate with real world experience. The opportunity to work with people is why the practicum is such a valuable experience.
Great Post !! Client’s autonomy is very important, especially when it comes to action research. Participants have to feel that they are a part of the change in order to ensure the outcome is successful(Stringer, 2014). While working in the Substance Abuse field, we used motivational interviewing to help clients in the change process who are uncertain about their goals for treatment. As I learned previously Carl Rogers believed that clients had the capacity within them to make changes and the relationship between the clients and therapist is a democratic partnership (Diclemente, 1999). Therefore, in action research this technique helps participants to become an integral part in the change process, which makes the outcome successful. Most times
Standard three mentions that educational leaders should promote equity among all students regardless of race, ability, socioeconomic status. Per the school improvement plan (SIP), the D accountability rating, and the STAR Reading results, I collaborated with colleagues, including the administrator, all reading teachers, and the interventionist to determine school-wide weaknesses and strengths. There had not been in depth data released for schools to analyze and identify the deficit areas at this point. However, the strengths and weaknesses were provided through another set of data called STAR Reading. STAR Reading is used as the baseline and universal screener for the district and the school to determine where students’ instructional levels are with each component of reading. It gives suggested starting points for teachers to utilize to develop activities and supports to increase student achievement
When the school year began Brando’s reading level was similar to that of a kindergarten student in the sixth month of school, which was captured on the STARS assessment test. Brando himself knew that one of his challenges was reading, thus, at the beginning of the school year, one of his classroom goals was to be a better reader. Similarly to Brando, my desire was for Brando to be a better reader along with my eight other students who were reading two or three grade levels below their actual grade.
For this Action Research, I conducted two whole group semi-structured focus group discussions in order to compile the inquiry data. Both discussions centered on a core set of questions that related to attitudes toward honors classes, ways they learn, and their academic future. In the first focus group, conducted at the beginning of the Action Research Project, seven of the eight boys participated. All seven boys said they liked classes where they could move and had the opportunity to create a product. Four boys said they liked creating products on the computer and six expressed positive attitudes toward acting or role playing activities. All boys said they liked working in collaborative groups, especially
I feel like I am really good at asking people for a response because no one ever comments on my post of even give a thumbs up, u then when I ask for a response, they all came and respond to my post, which made me really surprise.
Action learning, in contrast to action research, focuses on the learning and the action does not require the extension of new knowledge in a theoretical sense. In action learning the participants select some issues, analyze them, take some action and say on that action, while Action research is a process by which change and understanding can be pursued at the one time. It is usually described as cyclic, with action and critical reflection taking place in turn. It is commonly done by a group of people, though sometimes people use it to improve their practice. It has been used often in the field of education for this purpose. It is not unusual for there to be someone
