Choose an aspect of children’s learning and explain how you can provide a learning environment and materials to support this. Answer: Children aspects of learning include social and emotional development, physical development, intellectual development, and spiritual development. Among them I am choosing social and emotional development. To support children emotional and social development, the learning centre or place should be belonging, welcoming, comfortable, and safe. The environment must be caring, relax and children should consider as a second home. It is educators and centre management responsibility to ensure that children feel secure and belonging in their centre. To ensure such environment, educators or centre management should have the variety of resources which encourage children to work together, directly which will help children on understanding of who they are and how they can contribute to the world. For examples, request children to create group picture, ask them to play together in task, encourage their innovative skills etc. 2. Think about your current workplace. Outdoor activities as climbing, jumping, running, cycling, digging muds or sand are the materials which support children physical development and learning. Building blocks, toy cars, painting, colouring, with these activities children can engage on touching, smelling, tasting, or listening. Discussing, reading experimenting, constructing etc are the material in the centre helps support the intellectual development of children. 3. What is shared thinking? Summarise in less than 25 words. In this case, educator must develop such environment where their good behaviours are getting noticed and made a positive comment of it. Neglect the misbehaviour for children but not the children. Support them and try to encourage them on doing right things rather than scolding, punishing them while they are misbehaving. 3. One of the children using your service has developed a keen interest in boats. How can you modify your environment to expand on this interest? Answer: If child in our service has developed a keen interest in boats, then we can modify our resources, materials, and activities accordingly because centre priority is to focus on learning through play. We can introduce various resources relate to boat as constructing boats games, amine videos on boats and its parts, how to ride the boat etc into the centre. And make those resources, material accessible to all the children either interested or not interested.
