Developing working counseling relationship a. Diversity Considerations: i. Clinician will respect the family members willingness to engage in services. Be aware of the families religious beliefs and respect their beliefs. b. Relationship building approach/intervention: i. Clinician will actively collaborate with the family while demonstrating empathy and understanding. 2.) Assess individual, systemic, and broader cultural dynamics a. Diversity considerations: i. Clinician will use strength-based approaches while also encouraging the family to share what their needs and strengths are. b. Assessment strategies: i. Indicate trauma through a trauma assessment as well as what symptoms the children might be expressing and how they may be impacting the children. ii. Baseline trauma narrative involving all member of the family as well as what symptoms are present and the core beliefs for each member of the family. Initial Phase Client Goal 1.) Goal Type: Increase connection between all member of the family in order to reduce any unwanted behaviors. a. Interventions: i. Clinician will use parent-child joint sessions between parents and children in order to develop necessary skills to promote healthy relationships.
ii. Clinician will use psychoeducation to help create an understanding of trauma and the behavioral reactions due to trauma. Working Phase of Treatment Working Phase Counseling Task 1.) Monitor quality of the working alliance a. Diversity considerations: i. Clinician will continue to use empathy and be respectful of the families’ religious preferences while continuing to be cautious when presenting information in a nonjudgmental way. b. Assessment intervention: i. Clinician will check in with the family on their goals and therapy process by inviting feedback from all members of the family. Working Phase Client Goals 1.) Goal type: Increase community connection in order to reduce the lack of support for the family. a. Interventions: i. Clinician will give the family the task of exploring and finding potential community groups or events that the family would like to attend and then attending one group or event. ii. Clinician will give the family the task of keeping records regarding their thoughts on how they feel and think this might help their family before and after attending the group or event. 2.) Goal Type: Increase normalizing trauma responses in order to reduce any maladaptive beliefs. a. Interventions: i. Clinician will use psychoeducation through the use of bibliotherapy. ii. Clinician will use cognitive triangle to help the family visualize the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. 3.) Goal Type: Decrease strategies that are ineffective or unsafe in order to reduce any behavioral problems. a. Interventions:
