Vanessa Tune Professor Hall Psyc 250 4/11/2024 Chapter 10 Activity Instructions: Play at least two of the online memory games from The Memory Exhibition: Memory Games (Memory Solitaire, Tell Yourself a Story, Wander Around Your House, and Memory Party Game) and then answer the questions below. 1. Which two games did you choose to play? Memory Solitaire and Tell Yourself a Story 2. What were your experiences with each game? I thought I would remember all of the items and I would do a really good job. On memory solitaire I got 11 items remembered by just repeating the word which the game was acknowledging to be a term called elaborative encoding . I then tried another game called Tell yourself a story and I told a story about a clown watching tv and acted like on each channel there was an animal doing something different that the pictures were showing like I said a fish had a party with birthday cake and presents or a bear wearing a hat was sleeping in bed. On that game I got 12/20 right. 3. Discuss how the games relate to the brain structures that you learned about in this chapter. The memory game help improve the cognitive function. When playing the game I was utilizing my prefrontal cortex allowing me to temporarily store information, I was also using my hippocampus allowing my brain to encode and recall new information and I was also using the amygdala which is involved in emotional memory and helps to encode and store memories with emotional significance. 4. What kind of brain damage would lead to problems with these games? If there is damage to the hippocampus a person would have problems with their memory so they would have a hard time remembering the items or if a person had Alzheimers that would also be an issue since it is a memory impairment
