1. Discuss a president’s role in foreign policy, domestic policy, military readiness, and governmental administration. [MO6.1] The president has a plethora of roles that they must be able to fit into. In terms of Domestic policy, the president has the ability of removal, which allows them to remove cabinet members, high ranking appointees, and members of the presidential staff (Krtuz, 2021). The president also reserves the right to pardon without conditions, issue executive orders, and veto. In terms of foreign policy, the president typically uses executive order to announce the start of a military operation or the ending of a war. As well as using executive agreements with other foreign powers, similar to treaties. The president is the commander in chief of the united states armed forces. Along these lines the president has to fill military posts of high ranking officials. The president is also in charge of their cabinet, which is the presidents department heads for various operations that ensure the countries functionality. 2. Describe the evolution of the presidency from a weak to strong office. How would you describe today’s presidency? [MO6.1] The president was first mentioned in the Virginia plan, initially it was undecided whether it would be a single person or a group, later it was decided to be a single person. The president would be empowered by veto and subject to impeachment, as well as negotiate treaties, grant pardons, and would serve as commander in chief of the armed forces. Over the years, the executive branch expanded its powers, such as establishing a cabinet of advisors or purchasing large territorial gains. The presidency today is a very strong one, it has a wide array of advisors to the president, 15 to be exact. The issues that I see is the severe difference in the policies and ideologies of the two major parties. 3. Beginning with the intention to run for office to the general election, trace the path an individual usually takes from the start to taking the oath of office. [MO6.2] A candidate initially meets the requirements for presidency, then follows primaries and caucuses where party decide on who will represent them in the general election. National conventions are then used to select a nominee and a vice president, who then campaign in order to gain
