The decision for the United States to become involved in the Vietnam War was a complex decision that involved a combination of political, strategic, and ideological factors. These factors include the Containment Policy, Domino Theory, Fear of Communism, and Geopolitical Issues. It was the containment policy and the domino theory that led the United States to intervene in Vietnam, and was that if one country fell to communism, other surrounding countries would also fall as a result. The fear of
communism also influenced the US to become involved in the war due to what had happened in the past, with the Cold War and Cuban Revolution. Lastly, the Geopolitics involved, the US viewed Vietnam as a strategic location due to its location in Southeast Asia, especially being so close to China. The Vietnam War was justified in the sense that the objective of the US involvement was surrounded by the Containment of Communism, and the Humanitarian concerns aiming to protect to people of South Vietnam from the communist government in the North.
