1. Explain what  civil disobedience  is and what it is not. a. Which actions can be considered civil disobedience and which actions cannot? Civil disobedience refers to disapproving government demands accompanied by collectivism and nonviolence (Merriam Webster, 2024). The principle of civil disobedience is to respond to an instance of substantial and clear injustice. Civil disobedience is beneficial for overcoming political barriers. Civil disobedience is not meant for the group to engage in violent acts that will likely injure or hurt others, known as “uncivil disobedience.” 2. Describe what could make civil disobedience ethically  acceptable and  what could make it ethically  unacceptable. What makes the act of civil disobedience ethically acceptable is when the group doesn’t commit any wrongdoing that forfeits an individual’s right against harsh treatment. In example to the Women’s Rights Movement, many individuals came together peacefully to discuss their concerns with unfair treatment of women, and the goal was to seek equality for all. On the other hand, what makes civil disobedience ethically unacceptable is when it is performed in a political context and involves breaking the law (Cooke, 2021). 3. Explain why you think the people who engage in civil disobedience should or should not be  punished. To an extent, I feel that people who participate in civil disobedience should be punished if the event becomes violent because I do not condone violence. Wit a group of people who are all agreeing on the same topic and acting out violently, it would be difficult to contain the crowd.
