Faraday’s Law Name_________________________ Lab Procedure Download and run the HTML5 application “faradays-law_en”. Click on the voltmeter and field lines boxes to display both. Make sure only the single coil is displayed for now.
Click on “Flip Polarity” bar magnet icon on lower right. Explain what happens in the simulation in the box below. 1. Move the bar magnet left and right THROUGH the coil of wire. Describe the orientation of the magnetic field compared to the coil when the most voltage is generated. Orient the magnet so the N pole is on the left. Keep it this way. 2. Move the bar magnet up and down just above the coil. Why is little to no voltage generated when the bar magnet is moved up and down? (1 mark)
3. As the bar magnet enters the coil from the left (see diagram below), draw a Right-Hand- Rule in the box to describe the conventional current flow in the coil. Remember conventional current is opposite electron flow. Draw right-hand rule showing current flow in coil. You need to show the direction of the current in the coil in your drawing.
