T here is only one way to look at things until someone shows us how to look at them with different eyes. ~Pablo Picasso Reflections on A Different Mirror Book Study 20% Fruition Assignment 20 points Steps- 1. Read the assigned text and compose a reflection on the following prompts: Chapter 2- Address two of these questions. Describe the Powhatan civilization when the first English settlers arrived. o It seemed like there was a possibility of an alliance since the Powhatans were being friendly and didn’t want a war. At first, it seemed very easy for the English to take over Indian land in New England. Why? o It was easy because many of the Indians in the land were dying from the diseases the English brought. Chapter Three: Address two questions from the following options: Compare and contrast indentured servitude with slavery. o The difference between indentured servitude and slavery is that indentured servitude is a way to pay a debt meaning that there was at least an agreement to work without pay. While slaves were forced to work without pay, they did not get a choice. What was Bacon’s Rebellion? Why were landowners so threatened by it? o Bacon’s Rebellion was the result of how Berkeley was concerned about the Native Americans and how he wanted to remove them from the colony. However, after it was refused many Virginia settlers such as enslaved and indentured servants. 2. Answer: How will this chapter impact your teaching of Native Americans and/ or slavery? Be specific. After reading chapters 2 and 3 from the book I feel like it opens my eyes because this topic often went over fast and did not allow for us to process or understand how impactful it was for history. An example of this was Bacon’s Rebellion, in school I was told about it but we never got an explanation of why it was important
