Said Mechaal PHIL230 Professor Kate Padgett Walsh 23 August 2023 Reflection In this paper I want to reflect on the question that we discussed in class “Should we report a family member who committed a crime”. In fact, I'm still a little bit confused about the question. My response is straight and I do not need to think about it. I would never report a family member to the police. However, I could see that in class there are a lot of people that would report their father. After debating in class about this topic I realized that American culture is very different from mine. I am from Spain, I was born there but my parents are from Morocco. In fact, in Morocco the meaning of family is very important, the culture and the tradition as well. They educated me to be who I am right now through religion, their principles, and values. For this reason, the relationship with my parents it's very important. They did everything to help me achieve my goals and dreams. In my culture and religion, every single family member means a lot. In my opinion, no matter the background of the circumstances, the violence and proximity of the situation, the relationship with the victim, or knowledge, if it's the first time or second time that he committed a crime I would not report it to the police or anyone.
In conclusion, in this first week of class, I have learned that every person has a different perspective and different views of the meaning of family. Besides, I have learned that righteousness is not the same for everybody.
