For your initial post, introduce yourself to your peers and describe the importance of critical thinking skills to your personal and professional life. Ask someone from your intended career about critical thinking and/or listen to SNHU alumnus Dwayne Griffin's video. Hello everyone, my name is Shantel, I am in the state of Florida. I am pursuing my BA in Psychology with a mental health concentration as well as completing a philosophy minor! I should be graduating by the end of summer this year! In the field of mental health, critical thinking is crucial since it influences accurate diagnosis and evaluations, as well as efficient treatment planning and unambiguous advice. Critical thinking is also necessary when making decisions in my daily life. Examples of this include deciding how to respond to a situation when interacting with others or making informed decisions as well as the best and most functional method of completing tasks in a timely manner. Then, using concepts learned this week, explain the differences between experience , interpretation , and analysis (Boss, 2021, p. 21), using an example from your own life. An example of experience, interpretation, and analysis in my daily life is when I’m completing my schoolwork as I tend to begin my studies early in the mornings. At the experience level of thinking, we simply narrate our experiences rather than attempting to understand them. (Boss, 2021) Ex: When I plan to study or do assignments early in the morning, my alarm goes off, and despite my tiredness, I drag myself out of bed, determined to accomplish my work. Next, interpretation entails attempting to make meaning of our experiences. (Boss, 2021) Ex: Waking up early to accomplish coursework gives me more time to study and guarantees that I do my best. This allows me to organize my responsibilities and workload more efficiently. Lastly, Analysis involves elevating our level of thinking and carefully evaluating our perceptions of an event. The Analysis thought process commonly begins with a question. (Boss, 2021)
By starting my studies early, I can keep my stress levels down. Procrastination makes me anxious, therefore I prefer to do key activities early in the day to increase productivity while also giving me the sense of accomplishment. Next, Determine whether the three following statements exemplify experience, interpretation, analysis, or some combination of those three elements. Explain your answers. I failed the history test today because I couldn't find my textbook. Given that it recounts a direct event, this statement would be seen as an instance of experience. It's evident that failing the test was caused by not being able to locate the textbook. There is no interpretation or in-depth analysis involved in this statement. I lost my history textbook. This assertion is also an experience statement. If one does not analyze or interpret the textbook loss further, it is a straightforward event. I am not sure whether I need the textbook or just online sources to do well in my history class. I will ask the professor about the best path to success. This sentence, in my opinion, combines analysis and interpretation. The hesitancy to rely exclusively upon the textbook or look for information online suggests that one is trying to make sense of the circumstances, which highlights the interpretation component. The choice to speak with the professor is analyzed. The student hopes to maximize their study strategy by asking for advice. This is more in-depth examination than just initial understanding.
