PROCEDURE 21.5 PROTECT THE INTEGRITY OF THE MEDICAL RECORD
Task: Protect the integrity of the medical record.
Scenario:
You are mentoring a medical assistant student, who is on an externship. You notice the student routinely does not sign out of the EHR before leaving the desk. The facility's policy is to sign out or lock the computer before leaving it.
Directions:
Write up a dialogue between you, the medical assistant, and the extern. You must explain to the extern the facility's policy. Also address the hazards of not protecting the medical record. If the student does not change his/her behavior, you will need to address the situation with the department supervisor.
