2 How is the classroom organized? How does this help with classroom management? The class is very organized, students are seated in groups. The students have a basket to put their homework folders when they enter the class and put up their coats and book bags. There are color bins labeled with each student’s name, the bins have supplies students need for instructional use. The classroom jobs, learning target, success criteria, lesson plans are posted. This helps with classroom management because the students know where to find everything, they need for the classroom instructions. The teacher also has the students’ names and password on their laptops, which I noticed made the technology instructional transition time start in a timely manner, with minimal disruptions. According to Prodigy, 2022 there are classroom organization ideas that will make the year run easier, including color coding books, storing anchor charts in baskets, laminating worksheets, and replacing paper with dry erase place mats. Is the classroom environment positive or negative? Why? How can you tell? The classroom environment from observation is positive, the teacher stands at the door and greets the students as they enter the classroom. The students when seeing their teacher are very happy to see her and most great her with a hug. The students are eager to start their morning routines and even announces to the teacher that the date on the board is not correct. This tells me that the environment is positive, and the students feel comfortable in their classroom and in addressing their teacher. How do the students and teacher interact with one another? Observing the classroom, I noticed that the student/teacher interaction with one another is positive in most part. I noticed that some of the students where not on task because the teacher was not watching and engaging them. By observing I also noticed how some students were doing other tasks that were not assigned to them, for example a few of them were coloring, drawing,

3 and playing games on their laptops instead of following the directions given by the teacher. Some students also left their seats and walk up to the teacher’s desk without permission. The students would even walk up to the teacher and disturb her while she was in conversation with another teacher. In my observations even though I saw this as a positive learning environment. I concluded that the students’ needed more discipline in the classroom. The teacher should take more control over the class and set rules, especially about being respectful, and staying on task. To help keep the students on task especially during technology time, the teacher should walk around the classroom monitoring the students. Doing this would help keep the students on tasks because they would recognize that their teacher is watching them. Positive interactions between teachers and their students play an important role in determining student success (Lehigh University, 2023). As stated by Lehigh University (2023), the teacher must have active supervision, and circulate in the classroom to improve teacher/student interactions. How does the teacher deal with behavior issues if any are present? If no behavior issues are present, why do you think that is the case? The behavior issues in the classroom are not delt with in my opinion in a confusing way to the students. I say this because from observing a few students were talking in the hall transitioning to specials and the teacher punished the entire class with silent lunch, even though the students that were not talking were trying to tell her they were not talking. The students were very distraught and confused on why they were being punish for following directions. I also noticed that even though she told the students not to talk in the hall she herself was conversating with a few students in line that were asking her questions. In my opinion the teacher was not leading by example, and punishing the whole class was not the correct way to
