The article analyses four common hurdles that manager faces when trying to implement a broad change in an organization. Do you consider that these hurdles are also applicable to a project manager attempting to align his/her team? Explain why or why not.
The hurdles mentioned in the article are:
Perceptions and belief of people
Values
Heroes
Rites
Rituals Perceptions and belief of people is mentioned in the article and outlines the many different cultures, communication and interactions amongst people within or those not apart of the organization. Businesses must understand the importance of changed being adapted by employees. If employees are not being appreciated and treated with respect from employers, the business will suffer as the work will not be respected or pushed
(Team, 2022)
. Every employee is an asset to a company. There are other hurdles that can be faced such as values, heroes, rites and rituals. These hurdles should be considered by management to ensure that the growth of the team
and company is successful. These variables should be considered to ensure company success. How the perceptions and beliefs of the leadership of a company influence an organization's culture, shaping that culture as a whole, in particular the impact it has on that company’s way of doing things, ultimately the company products and services. Provide specific (company) examples.
The culture of a company is placed on the shoulders of its leaders. The strength of a leader determines the strength of the company
(Craig, 2018)
. Strong leaders provide vision, purpose, mentorship, inspiration and guidance. The higher the quality in work, the more clients are retained. Leaders should have the ability to possess the skill of coaching and mentoring to ensure
that employees have a strong example that they would want to follow. Appreciation is shown to employees, opportunities are provided as well as leaders maintain an open door to ensure that if employees have an issue, it can be resolved with ease. According to the article, the pillars that are discussed are:
Purpose
Accomplishment
One another
Leaders must have the ability to connect with their employees through engagement and encouragement. An example of how the culture of a company is affected is through the leader. There are leaders who believe that they do not have to show empathy to certain employees because they are not retaining what was taught in a swift manner that they believe the employee should have
(The 8 Types of Leadership Styles Explained – With Examples, 2022)
. This causes friction and disagreements between both the leader and the employee because there are leaders who begin to disrespect the employee in many ways. Present and past employees see the changes in the culture of the company which leaves them to determine whether or not they want to remain with the company or they prefer to find something new. Management should always try to keep an open communication policy while always finding new ways to encourage employees and allowing feedback that can help the company to be successful. References
