Nonprofit Business Plan
Talk About It
Prepared by Avery Rooker
Talk About It classifies as a 501(c)(3) type of nonprofit organization
Talk About It provides vital metal health services to teen and young adult men and women. We are the only mental health nonprofit in Memphis offering affordable therapy based on monthly income and expenses. We offer our services based on a client’s capacity to pay. According to the State of Mental Health in America Report, 16.39% of youth (age 12-17) report suffering from at least one major depressive episode (MDE) in the past year and 11.5% of youth (over 2.7 million youth) are experiencing severe major depression. Moreover, over half (54.7%) of adults with a mental illness do not receive treatment, totaling over 28 million individuals. (Avery – find the source by Googling these statistics). Far too often, youths lack access to affordable mental health services. We aim to address that issue by offering a variety of therapy options at affordable rates based on monthly income and expenses. Talk About It accepts insurance with the option to waive co-pays and offers private rates based on a sliding scale and capacity to pay model. Our Mission:
We offer accessible mental health care, including nontraditional therapy options. We provide therapy that focuses on helping young people achieve their full potentials. We strive to support our youth by instilling confidence and providing sound guidance and encouragement. Our Vision: We believe every individual deserve affordable access to mental health services. We strive to provide quality mental health services to young adults at affordable and accessible rates. Services
We adopt a holistic and full life approach to therapy by addressing all aspects of life affecting one’s mental health. We provide a safe space to work at your own pace through individual and group therapy sessions, journaling therapy, and art therapy (Avery – delete if you don’t want to offer art therapy). Through our services, we help clients to address their life’s concerns and issues and manage their mental health needs safely and positively. In collaboration with our mental health counselors, Talk It Out offers therapy options to Memphis’ most vulnerable populations - elementary-aged children to college-aged young adults. Our services are not about the money. We charge a below average rate for our services to cover costs of operation, including salaries, and to be able to continue to offer our services at an affordable rate. We can support individuals and families through trauma and meet their mental health needs because of our low-cost fees for therapy services.
Talk It Out practices inclusive therapy. Everyone deserves access to therapy. We remove the money barrier and combat stigmas related to mental health. Through support and access to mental health resources, we empower the youth to live to their fullest potentials. Fund Development/Finances
Sliding Scale The average cost for an hour therapy session in the U.S. ranges from $100 to $200 per session (depending on the state), according to a 2019 report by Simple Practice. Our therapy fees:
$1.25 per minute for a one-hour individual or group therapy session totaling $75.00.
$1.50 per minute for a one-hour art therapy session ($90.00)
$1.25 per minute for a 2-hour long art therapy session ($150.00).
$1.67 per minute for 1-hour long movement therapy session ($100.00)
Art Supplies are provided
Movement Therapy Tools provided
Talk About It offers a variety of payment options for our clients. Payment is based on a client’s capacity to pay. We account for monthly income and expenses to calculate a payment arrangement. The sliding scale table below is our standard model. If a client earns less than $18,000 annually, we offer 90% off our services. If our client earns $35,000 to $40,000 annually, we offer 20% off our services. Our sliding scale fees are based on income level and formulated by 10% discount increments. If a client does not have the capacity to pay the rate offered based on income due to monthly expenses, other arrangements will be made to ensure services are rendered no matter one’s ability to pay. . We will accept the amount the client is able to pay whether on a short-term basis due to an unforeseen hardship or circumstance or on a long-term basis (to be assessed annually). Income

We will assist our mental health counselors with registering as a provider through insurance companies, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, and Medicaid. Our payment options with insurance are as follows:
If the client (or another name for a person receiving services) wishes to use their insurance to pay for services, we offer the option to waive a portion, or all their co-pay based on capacity to pay.
If the client is out of network with their insurance, we offer the option to waive a portion or all their potion of the cost for services based on capacity to pay.
If the service offered is not covered by insurance, we will offer the client our sliding scale

Fundraising Details
-
We will have a donation option on the website. Whenever you visit the site to donate there will be a small option at the top always for donations that will take you to a page showing people you have and will help and about what we do. -
Since we will be operating not only for people with limited access with will provide our resources to people who have no problem paying and we will have a program to “help a friend in need” where if able and want to (this will be advertised for the patient to do as an option it will not be asked of the patient) they can donate towards someone else’s therapy journey. -
Monthly we will hold a community event somewhere we feel has a community that meets
our target market to spread more awareness for what we do, and we will do mini versions
of what we do in our therapy sessions to give people an idea of what we offer since it is not like usual therapy offered
-
We will also invest in digital marketing on social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook
-
We will also take donations in the form of supplies needed for art therapy and mats and foam blocks needed for movement therapy and notebooks and pens for journaling therpay
Currently we hope to bring in at least 50% of funding from our Monthly fundraisers and website donations We strive to have major donors fund at least 30% of the business so our patients are only required to pay 20% of the costs incurred.
Our audience and target market for fundraising will be people who believe mental health is vital to one's ability to be encouraged throughout their lives to be their best. People who want to invest in the new generations or even their own from knowing the struggles. We want to attract this audience because we feel they will understand most what need we are trying to address. Talk About It will have a few major roles for Fundraising and Marketing

To put our name out there and gain potential major donors our first step is to hold a silent auction
and spread our names to parents of high schoolers and college-aged students and the students themselves additionally people who have a high platform and have spoken out for mental health. We would additionally like to have Dancers, Yoga Instructors, Artists, and Writers who can speak and use it as therapy and are knowledgeable in their fields to share their expertise. We think inviting people who are important to the community and who are known to donate to mental health needs will be huge for our business. Holding a silent auction, I think it would be a great first fundraiser to really get our name out there and give an opportunity for our donors to take something home with them. For example, offering things like a dinner for 2 to Memphis’ famous rendezvous would allow people to donate and gain traction for the company but also provide our donors with something to win so it’s like a trade instead of just asking for the money
with nothing to offer them besides feeling good about donating. We can also make it like a yearly celebration fundraiser for the company and offer special things you can only get through the fundraiser. Volunteers
