Consider the following questions: a. What is the source, when was it made? ● Episode from a TV show ● Aired on March 4, 2019 b. How can the source be accessed? ● Hulu, Vudu, Sling TV, Prime Video or Apple TV c. How come you chose the source that you did? ● I chose this source because it had an interesting legal vs. moral dilemma that involved both personal relationships and requirements by law that medical professionals had to follow. 3. Once you've introduced your source, provide a brief description of the source (approximately 5-7 sentences in total). What is happening in the source? ● In this episode of “The Good Doctor”, Shaun Murphy exclaims his wish to be re-established as a doctor to Dr. Jackson Han. Two crucial cases are also present in this episode: a potentially abusive mother that happens to be Dr. Audrey Lim’s friend, and a teenager with a large, growing neurofibroma. Dr. Lim’s friend’s baby had undergone surgery for subdural hematoma, but the cause for bleeding is unknown. Later, it is discovered that the baby had a subarachnoid bleed, which means he could have been abused. Lim contacts a CPS agent who arrests her friend for abuse, which infuriates her. However, further lab tests prove her innocence. Shaun is fired at the end of episode for his outburst in yelling his position as a surgeon to Han. 4. Lastly, describe the dilemma you have identified within the source. a. What choice is being made? ● Whether to report Lim’s friend, Laura to CPS as legally required or to trust Laura’s claims that she did not abuse her child b. How is it a right vs right decision? ● Lim is legally obligated to report potential cases of abuse, but she also has established trust and loyalty with her friend. ● There is a moral vs. legal conflict in place, but ultimately Lim makes the correct legal decision. c. How do you plan to further analyze the source moving forward with the project? ● Could compare this case with related cases to see if the arrest of Lim’s friend was truly necessary ● Could evaluate if further tests could have been conducted to avoid Laura’s arrest and prove her innocence ● Evaluate what ethical theories/concept relate to the situation
