As part of my job as an accountant, | get used to registering information using database programs. While studying computer science at the University of the People, | learned that computers save this information, what we call data, on their hard disk using their language, which contains characters and symbols. How can we define big data? Since the word big refers to volume, "the big data has a large volume generated at a high velocity and with great variety" (Taylor, D., 2023). Types of Big Data: As Taylor, D. (2023), says, there are three types of big data: 1. Structured data: We store this type of data using a database or spreadsheet. This data has different formats, such as a date format, text, number, etc. And we can reach it whenever we want. We call this type "structured data", such as data in relational databases. 2- Unstructured data: We can refer to unstructured data for unorganized data. This data doesn't have a format and isn't organized in columns and rows, such as in a relational database. Text documents, images, videos, and social media posts are examples of unstructured data. 3- Semi-structured data: This type of data is a mix of structured and unstructured data, such as personal data stored in an XML file. Examples of Big Data Applications: Business, E-commerce, marketing, Healthcare, Finance, Transportation, Social media, cybersecurity, Government and public administration, and Manufacturing are real-time examples of big data (Rice, M., & Whitfield, B.2023).
