He is best known for his role in the Great Awakening, a religious revival that swept through the American colonies. Edwards was a staunch Calvinist and his sermons oKen emphasized the absolute sovereignty of God, the depravity of humanity, and the divine judgment that awaited sinners. Understanding Edwards' religious beliefs and his role in the Great Awakening can help us understand the urgency and severity of his message in the document. 2. What is he saying in the document? Here a brief synopsis in 1-2 sentences and some bullet points will work. -In the document, Edwards is delivering a sermon that warns of the wrath of God and the eternal damnation that awaits sinners. He urges his listeners to repent and turn to God for mercy. Edwards describes the wrath of God as a "great furnace of wrath" He warns that God's wrath is "bent" on the wicked and that they face eternal damnation He urges his listeners to repent and seek God's mercy 3. His sermons were designed to appeal to his listeners' emotions, and He advised his listeners that salvation could only be found by having a personal relationship with God, this process came to be known as a "conversion" experience.
