In what ways does it change America? The G.I. Bill allowed and still allows veterans the opportunities to get a higher education. It also allows for their dependents to get a higher education. It not only allows for a higher education, but it also gives resources for housing and unemployment insurance. “It put higher education within the reach of millions of veterans of WWII and later military conflicts” (National Archives and Records Administration) 2. Why is the automobile so important to post war America? It’s important, because it opened up a new type of freedom to people that was never available before. It also led to a slew of jobs that helped the American people, by the development of roads and transportation. “Industries and new jobs developed to supply the demand for automobile parts and fuel. These included petroleum and gasoline, rubber, and then plastics.” ( The automobile: Social game changer) 3. Describe gendered spheres in American society during WWII and how they changed after the war. How did women’s roles change? WWII created the “new” America. Homes were no longer men working and women staying home and being the homemaker and child reared. The women had to go into the work field, they needed to so homes could eat, and people could survive. It created a new generation of women, independent women, who wanted their own rights. Women realized they could do more than just stay home. 1
4. What was the role of religion in post-World War II American society? After the world, America wasn’t very religious, the war really put a halt on religion. The baby boomers and their parents were really the ones to start really making religion more of an importance again. This is when people started moving and creating suburbs and started to really establish church and family being important. References National Archives and Records Administration.
