CPA Question One
The impression I got about the Romans from this documentary is that they were
a people who were strengthened by conflict. They are proud of being Romans and they
were also quite diverse for the time. With Rome spreading over a very large portion of
land the Roman empire became diverse. If I could travel back and ask a Roman to
describe themselves and their culture I believe that is what they would say. They would
proclaim they are proud, diverse, and strong people.
After reading the textbook and viewing the documentary a few descriptive words
of how the Romans liked to be viewed would be “Harmonious and Cooperative”
(Berger,2016). They wanted people to view them as providers of harmony and
individuals who would spread order through the expansion of their empire. This includes
their neighbors in the Mediterranean. In summary that is how the Romans liked to be
perceived and understood; especially during the eras of Roman expansion and peace
such as the Pax Romana era.
CPA Question Two
Modern connections that can be made from the Romans to today from the
documentary is Roman architecture. For instance, the aqueducts built by the Romans
were a feat of architecture. Aqueducts continue to influence our lives today and affect
our lives in the modern world through the advancements that were made in unison with
the invention of the aqueduct. Aqueducts allowed for this idea of accessible running
water for everyone which led to plumbing, baths, fountains, and certain types of
irrigation. I most certainly enjoy having access to water within my own home and the
aqueduct was the first step to the invention of plumbing as we know it today. This
technology has a direct modern connection to our world today. In the forms of plumbing,
pools, spas, and much more.
