Introduction Letter
to COS Lab Teachers
I, ____________________________ am a student in the Child Development 126 Observation and Assessment class, taught by Professor Angeles. I am required to observe a child at a child care center for
a minimum of 6 hours
throughout the semester.
I have a time sheet attached which requires a teacher’s
signature verifying the time that I am at the site observing.
I am also required to conduct a structured “play” observation, complete six check lists in the six developmental domains and collect 1-2 pieces of visual documentation on a child that I will be conducting a child study on.
I need to gather information about the child, name, age, and background history. The background history is not of a “real”
personal nature. Here’s an example of what I am looking for: Child’s name, age, and family information. Example: John Doe is 4.5 months and he lives with both parents. Dad works full time and mom is
a full time student
. Both of his parents are dominance English speakers. He has three siblings and he is the youngest of two sisters and a brother
. Professor Angeles instructed students to follow whatever the policy is concerning giving out information on children from your site.
Please sign this form indicating that you have read it and understand what it is that the student is supposed
to be doing while observing at your site. It may be necessary for the students to work with the teachers to
get the information that they need for the case study. But, by no means
should the teacher do their work or feel the need to track the student’s progress. If the student does not collect the information required that is totally
their responsibility. Do not feel obligated to help the student complete assignments. You are only being asked to provide the site and a child for them to complete the child study.
