A-1 ABSTRACT Title: Ohm’s Law Date: 2/27/24 Author: Sebah Khiar Lab partners: Sarah Flynn, Lauryn Hill Class, Section & Lab group: PHYS-246-2D1, Group 3 This experiment was conducted in 4 different parts, all on PhET simulations. The first part consisted of predicting and measuring the change of current through a 120 Ω resistor, increasing a 1V battery by increments of 1V. The second part consisted of measuring both voltage and current through a circuit containing a 10 Ω and 100 Ω resistor and a 5V and 10V battery. The third part consisted of a parallel circuit that had 2 100 Ω resistors and a battery, which was used to measure the current through the resistors. The fourth and final part consisted of measuring the current and voltage of a series-parallel circuit and each resistor. For our Qualitative results, it was observed that as the number of resistors increased in the circuit, as the voltage stayed constant, the current of the circuit decreased. As the voltage increased, we also observed that the current increased, indicating a proportional relationship. As for the parallel circuit, we analyzed that each parallel resistor did have its own current value, and overall creating an increase in current as the resistors were added (with different values). For out Quantitative results, we found the predicted values in Activity 2 to be : 0.045A and 0.273 for the 10 Ω and 100 Ω resistors ( 5V and 30 V battery), and 0.025 A and 0.15 for the 100 Ω and 100 Ω resistors. This did fall the 5% tolerance for the resistors, which explains the measured values ( 0.05, 0.3, 0.02, and 0.1) to be off slightly.
