In groups, the students will identify the different traits of bees with the given a picture of the bee from the bee bodies resource, with at least 80% accuracy. This is DOK 1 , because they are just recalling the information from the book to a picture. They are even using the picture from the book. They can just look in the book as a resource, so it is something that is right there in front of them. Parker Underwood is above benchmark in all of his scores. I think this activity would be easy for him because his retell score is at a 27, which is above benchmark. This would be easy for him to retell what happened in the bee bodies resource. He also follows instructions and rules in class. He gets along with friends, and so he would do well to work in a group. Yara Smith . I think this could be a challenging task for her. Her retell score is below benchmark. So, I think that if she could use the book that it could maybe help her on this objective. She also has a hard time getting along with other students. So, I think that is where it would be a challenge where it is a group project. I think that if a teacher is walking around and supervising that she could maybe get along with the others in the group. On a given graphic organizer, the students will identify the cause-and-effect relationships between organisms and their environment scoring a percentage of at least 90% correct. This is DOK 2 , because they have to apply their basic knowledge of organisms and their environments. It is a more than one step process. There is a resource they can look at to help them, but it is something they need to have basic knowledge on to help them better complete this assignment. Parker Underwood . I think he would do well on this assignment because his ELA RISE score is highly proficient. It would almost be too easy for him. He wouldn’t struggle with using the graphic organizer or applying basic knowledge for this assignment. He is at a 437 on his ELA RISE score. He also asks for help if he needs it, so if he did have a question he would ask. I think this could help him be successful on this assignment. This is from his classroom performance communication section. Yara Smith. I think that this could be challenging for her. She could use scaffolding on this assignment. Her ELA RISE score is starting to approach proficient, and so if she gets help and then slowly gets less help it could make her perform better. I think that she would just need guidance to get started. I also think she could struggle with this assignment because she doesn’t like to ask for help. On her classroom performance it says that she doesn’t ask for help when she needs it. If she’s struggling and needs more scaffolding and support she won’t ask for it. This isn’t a resource that is right in front of them. They have to use their minds to come up with a deeper understanding of the life cycle of a butterfly using evidence. Parker Underwood. I think he would do well on this assignment. His retell score is above benchmark every year. He does well when he needs to retell something. This is what he would be doing on this assignment. I think this assignment would be just right for him. He is always on task and follows instructions and contributes to class all the time. This is from his classroom performance behavior section. Yara Smith . I think this assignment could be challenging for her. Her retell score is below proficient, and so I think she has a hard time retelling and using evidence for the life cycle of a butterfly. It also says in her classroom performance that her work isn’t of great value. She just speeds through it and doesn’t put detail into it. This assignment needs to be detailed to get a passing score. The students will create a narrative story from the perspective of an animal of their choice, demonstrating correctly and specifically the relationships between this animal and its environment. THIS IS A NEW ABCD LEARNING OBJECTIVE!! This is DOK 4 , because students have to be creative in coming up with a story. They have to use their imagination on how they will write from the perspective of this animal. All of these will be different, because the students get to pick the animal they write about. This is a project that will take time, and that they have to plan out. They have to organize their information before they get started. They can pull from different sources. Parker Underwood . I think he would do well with this learning objective. His acadience reading scores are all above benchmark and have been since first grade. For this activity he could expand on his time riding horses. This information comes from his personal data section. He could write his narrative from a horse’s point of view. I think this activity is just right for parker. Yara Smith. I think this activity would be too difficult for her. She isn’t quite at this level yet. Her RISE Ela score is starting to approach proficiency, but I still think she would have a hard time with this objective. I think that it could maybe be easy for her to pick out an animal to write about, because she likes Disney princess, and they all have animal sidekicks. This is from her personal data section. But writing about that animal and coming up with a narrative story could be hard for her.
