Discussion week 6 Discussion topic for week 6: The Gunning Fog Index 1- What was the fog index of the paragraph above?  Please give at least two reasons for its score based on your understanding of how the Gunning Fog Index calculates the level of complexity. 2- Insert your piece of writing into the text box. You don't have to share your fog index here in this discussion. However, please write a few sentences explaining the Gunning Fog Index. Do you think it is a valid method of determining the complexity of a piece of text? The index for the paragraph above was 15.25. Based on the results, we can conclude that the text is quite tricky since the index exceeds 15 and is not readable to a wide audience. Ruth Murray's assessment states that a professional writer should score between 10 and 15. Below 10, you risk oversimplifying your point. When the index is 15, your reader may struggle to comprehend. The index considers two elements. The first is the length of the sentences. Shorter phrases are more straightforward to grasp, which reduces the fog. Second, it considers the number of complicated terms. Words containing three or more syllables are uncommon in English. As the quantity of difficult words increases, so does the fog. The index of the paragraph is higher than 15 due to the number of complicated words with three or more syllables and the number of words in general. I believe the Gunning Fog Index accurately assesses a text's difficulty level. Experts and non- experts alike can study the text with equal precision since it gives an objective measurement. I would recommend this index as a realistic way for people to understand and measure the complexity of any given piece of writing, independent of the written language, because this may be more important when translating across languages. However, without a standard for assessing the complexity of all languages, it may not apply to all types of writing.
Discussion topic for week 6: Examining PARC for Resumes 1- Please examine the following website:    Is Your Resume CRAP? Select one of the four principles (proximity, alignment, repetition, or contrast). Please explain it to your classmates in a paragraph.  In your section, describe how a resume on this website does or does not follow this principle. 2- Examine the following resume:   Amelia Adams -- Resume This resume demonstrates practical proximity, alignment, repetition, and contrast. Select a different principle from the one you selected for question #1. Describe why this resume shows this principle effectively. 1- John Smith's CV uses contrast to emphasize crucial information, simplifying recognizing his qualifications and achievements. Significant portions such as headings, job titles, education, and notable accomplishments can be highlighted using contrast in formatting, such as bolding or contrasting fonts and sizes. Green and red help the white fond shine out, making the resume more visually appealing and readable, thereby increasing the CV's overall impression on potential employers . 2- Amelia Adams' resume utilizes alignment for a professional and orderly appearance. The summary is right aligned, forming a noticeable line. He establishes a visual framework by aligning the components, such as headings and talents, on the left and education, experience, and projects on the right. Respecting the margins helps the reader browse and assimilate the information more easily. All these groups contribute to a unified look, which can improve the overall presentation of the resume and make a good impression on potential employers. 3- Contrast is using size, color, font, and different styles to make your resume's sections easily distinguishable. Using contrast effectively can help those reading your resume differentiate sections, making it easier to read.  In the first "CRAP" resume, John Smith effectively uses contrast. You can easily distinguish the sections in his resume, which is easy to read. His use of different size fonts and colors breaks the page up and effectively separates elements.  4- Amelia Adams' resume perfectly demonstrates alignment. The sections and subsections in her resume are aligned with each other and flow evenly throughout the page. Her contact and skills information are also aligned with each other. This resume has a clean look and is very easy to read.  5- Repetition: Amelia Adams' resume demonstrates all four design elements very well, and with repetition, it is no exception; Amelia Adams' resume demonstrates effective repetition with each section title, like the education or experience. They all have a small circle near them with a symbol of the section. The sections also are the
