Discussion – Week 5 In the discussion forum, you are expected to participate often and engage in deep levels of discourse. Please post your initial response as early in the unit as possible and continue to participate throughout the unit. You are required to post an initial response to the question/issue presented in the Forum and then respond to at least 3 of your classmates’ initial posts.  You should also respond to anyone who has responded to you.  Review the Assessment Toolkit on Page 17 of ‘ Rethinking classroom assessment with purpose in mind’  and the assessment strategies in ‘ Using assessment to drive instruction’  included in this Unit’s reading list. ·         Select an assessment FOR learning. ·         Select an assessment AS learning. ·         Explain when you would employ each of these assessments during the school year and appraise your expectations regarding their implementation with your students. Assessment FOR learning I utilize assessment FOR learning, or formative assessments, throughout each unit contained within an overarching lesson. For these, I often utilize an online-based quiz software called Kahoot! “Kahoot! is a free program that uses visuals and other elements to keep students engaged in learning (Bariuad, 2022). For the past few years, I have had classrooms full of very competitive students. This format works well because I can set up the quizzes to be done in small groups or individually. Kahoot! keeps score in real- time and my students can easily track where they fall in the grand scheme of quiz-takers. These Kahoots hold no grade value. I am easily able to tap into my students’ competitive nature, engage them in the lesson content, and accurately assess where each student is, if done individually, in his/her comprehension of the material ( Using assessment to drive instruction. n.d). Assessment AS learning Assessment AS learning “encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning” (Ramadan, 2020). Project-based learning (PBL) assignments are one way that I utilize assessment AS learning. PBL assignments allow me to give students the purpose/goal of the assignment and then leave the completion of said assignment up to each individual student, or small group, depending on how the assignment is structured. For younger classes, I do offer an outline of tasks that need to be completed, which almost looks like a rubric. Structuring my lesson in this manner also guides my students on non-topic related skills, like executive functioning and time management, that will carry into other classes. References Bariuad, S.
