Before creating the website, I used three significant components: gathering the information, planning, content, and design. Gathering information entailed gathering relevant that coincided with my learning goal and target audience for year three, eight-year-old students (Flintoff et al., 2014). The planning stage comprised of me gathering curated resources and information. With this information, I created a sitemap of the layout and topics listed on the website (Newman & Landay, 2000). I found the website's design element quite challenging, as I have minimal experience embedding curated resources to make a website. Digital curation ensured I made ethical judgments on appropriating resources I embedded into the website. Equally important other considerations for curating resources were the relevancy, accuracy, authenticity, and appropriateness of the materials for year three, eight-year-old students. Significance is placed on twenty-first educators to ensure their content aligns with the curriculum (ACARA,2020) to ensure content and sources have relevance to meeting the student’s needs, learning needs, and abilities (Deschaine & Sharma, 2015). Invoking professional knowledge means, as an educator, researching the multitude of curation tools available; this will also accommodate my teaching practices and learning goals of all students (Adapted from De Rossi, L.C. and Good, R. 2010 cited in Flintoff et al. 2014). Critical components of good curation entail gathering webpages to a specific topic, filtering content to select the best materials, publishing content, distributing for the target audience, allowing the curator to edit or provide feedback for the targeted audience to foster discussions, analysis of curated content, which means tracking the usage of the site and finding a way to save the curated work (Flintoff et al., 2014) Through digital curation, I was able to find specific resources for my topic that coincided with the curriculum, the year level and age of the students (ACARA,2020), and my learning goal, which was for students to make ethical decisions regarding cyberbullying and reporting inappropriate behaviour (Flintoff et al., 2014). I also utilised the Australian Standard for Teachers, Standard Three Plan for effective teaching and learning by selecting and creating various resources, including ICT, to engage in their learning the students learning (AITSL, 2017). I chose the children to watch a video called Mighty Heroes, which involves each animal having superhero powers to promote online safety (Inman,2021). From there, I chose Minecraft Education, "Good Game", for my learning as the game promotes online safety and provides students with opportunities to deal with real-life scenarios where they would have to make ethical decisions regarding reporting inappropriate behaviours online ( Cyber Safe: Good Game - Official Minecraft Trailer , n.d.)After the game, I created a quiz using the Kahoot application (Brand et al., 2012) and the Mighty Heroes story to solidify the students' understanding of cyberbullying (Inman, 2022).
The application of professional knowledge entailed me following the Australian Standards for Teachers. Standard six places significance on teachers engaging in professional learning to improve their practice by participating in learning to update professional practice needs. (AISTL,2017). Research indicates there needs to be more work to effectively utilise technologies in early childhood education, which can be addressed by educators developing new ideas about their students' digital play and assisting educators to recognise students' learning experiences with technologies that foster play-based learning (Edwards, 2013). Application of professional knowledge was looking at the unit's literature and watching YouTube videos that coincided with my topic, creating the website learning goal, and targeting the audience (ACARA,2020) (AISTL,2017). I ensured I communicated openly with my tutor and posted on the discussion board to solidify and consolidate learning. Professional knowledge also entailed me using my reflective practice to ensure I made improvements to my assignment Australian Government Department of Education and Training (2022) 4: Early childhood education classrooms and early learning settings nurture play-based learning, and educators assess students' play to ensure future learning success (Edwards & Bird, 2015). I designed my website to ensure engagement with my targeted audience by adding colour, pictures, videos, and resources to invoke and engage in learning. I also organised the website to accommodate the different learning styles in my classroom; for example, some students are visual learners, some require visual cues, and some require repetition to solidify their learning. Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences theory coincides with the fact that students are not limited to one IQ standard; they have various intelligences and ways of learning (Kafanabo, 2008). 5: If I had to do this task again, I would colour-code individualised steps for the assignment and familiarise myself with Weebly after assignment one was submitted, as it took me quite some time to figure it out. I would also write goals for each assignment element and mark them off once done.
