D082 Task 1 Template and Tips To access the official Task Instructions and Grading Rubric, please click on the “View Task” links on your main D082 Course of Study page. A. Global Leadership Foundation Emotional Intelligence Test (GEIT) Complete and submit your GEIT results by attaching a PDF or a screenshot of the test results page to your submission . Here is a link to the GEIT Test (also found on the Course Resources page or at the bottom of the Task 1 instructions). Make certain to attach both GEIT test and the assignment before submission . Please do not include your results as a link as the evaluators cannot open file links within your submission. B. Intrapersonal Improvement Apply either the research of Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer or Daniel Goleman to explain TWO ways that you can improve your intrapersonal areas of opportunity (self-awareness and/or self-management) from your GEIT results. (Unit 2: Module 1). 1. The first way I could improve both my self-awareness and my self-management skills is by practicing mindfulness throughout the day. Whether it's after experiencing a conflict or before making important decisions, I should stop and quietly focus on observing my emotions before following up with deducing “why” I feel those emotions. 2. The second way I could improve my intrapersonal skills is by exercising my internal locus of control. This could be done by consciously reminding myself that no matter what situation I find myself in, the only reasonable changes that can be made under my control are my thoughts, words, and actions. C. Interpersonal Improvement C. Describe TWO Emotional Intelligence communication techniques that can improve your interpersonal areas of opportunity (social awareness and/or relationship management) from the GEIT results (Unit 2: Modules 1 and 3). Please be sure to explain how these Emotional Intelligence communication techniques will help you to improve your interpersonal areas of Emotional Intelligence. 1. Active listening would be a good way to improve my interpersonal skills. Active listening is a contributor to overall effective communication as it not only allows me to absorb more knowledge, but it can also aid in building trust and positive relations with the speaker. Examples of active listening practices I could implement are listening without
speaking, paying attention to non-verbal queues, and asking questions about the content the speaker is sharing. 2. Another technique that would improve my interpersonal skills would be to practice being assertive. While I struggle with a mostly passive mindset, I need to remind myself that I am putting myself and others at a disservice if I don't learn how and when to be assertive. Even if a situation seems volatile, I can still learn how to communicate concerns without imposing strong opinions or expressing negative emotions. D. References D. Acknowledge sources, using in-text citations and references for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized. TIP: Sources are not required for this course; however, if a source is quoted or paraphrased, please include pertinent information in this section that includes the author, title, date, and location of the source. Please see the Citing Sources document found on the Course Resource Page for additional APA assistance. E. Professional Communication E. Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission. TIP: You do not need to input any information in this section.  This section is used by the evaluator to assess your professional communication (sentence structure, grammar, etc.).  TIP: Grammarly is a helpful tool to ensure professional communication. Basic access to Grammarly is free - here is the link to their website: Grammarly.com . Also, here is the Writing Center’s link   that provides a short video on how to use Grammarly to minimize grammatical errors. You can also schedule review appointments for writing with the Writing Center from the Success Centers tab at the top of your course home page.
