1 Sophia Lorenzo Personal Raw Materials Assessment September 9, 2021
2 Introduction Taking inventory of my raw materials by assessing my strengths, potential strengths, faults, motivators, personality, and core values is key to accurately marketing myself. This assessment uncovered personal aspects that I would not have previously considered. The results will serve as a tool to truthfully market myself to employers, strengthen my weaknesses and use my strengths to their full potential. Raw Materials 1. Strengths A. To determine my strengths, I began by developing a list of my talents, abilities, and skills that come naturally to me. I reflected on the areas of life where I typically excel and often receive praise from others. Additionally, I considered software programs and social media platforms where I have received training and retained as skills. Next, I completed the HIGH5 online strengths assessment to further discover my top five strengths. Lastly, I gathered opinions and feedback from friends and family members to gain knowledge about my strengths from different perspectives. B. In my preliminary list of strengths, I found that hands-on creative and artistic tasks come naturally to me. I often receive praise for my designs, paintings, drawings, event planning, interior decorating, and photography. I found that along my creative journey I have acquired skills in programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Revit, AutoCAD, Canva, and InDesign. The HIGH5 online strengths assessment revealed my top five strengths. The results showed that I am a deep thinker that enjoys mental activity and meaningful conversations. This quality allows me to digest complex information and ideas before communicating it with others. It explained that my objective or “way of life” is to come up with new concepts and ideas. I am constantly trying to find new perspectives on familiar challenges. As a result, the assessment suggested that others might see me as an innovative person willing to produce “out of the box” ideas. Further, it revealed that my goal is to act and initiate action. I find it easy to transform intangible ideas into tangible actions. The assessment showed that I am confident and bring confidence to others. My inner confidence and self-motivation allow me to take risks, meet new challenges, and deliver results. Confidence applies not only to my abilites, but to my judgments. It creates a feeling of certainty, which is crucial for driving decision making processes. Lastly, it showed that I am very successful in constantly changing environments. It is easy for me to adapt because I see the world as an everchanging place. I am skilled at making progress in chaotic environments. The feedback I received from my family and friends aligned with my preliminary findings and online assessment results. They expressed that I am talented and successful in anything creative. One family member stated that I “have an eye” for seeing possibility in the ordinary.
3 C. From this self-assessment, I gained insights about my greatest strengths. I learned about the qualities that are beneficial to myself and how I can use them to help others. I was surprised to receive confidence and self-motivation as a quality I possess from the online assessment. 2. Potential Strengths A. Potential strengths are skills that are not fully developed. They are skill areas that I could be better at if I put forth more effort. To assess these skills, I asked myself the following questions: What tasks do I often find difficult? What tasks do I often avoid? What can I do, but not do well? In addition to my self-reflection, I asked my parents to weigh in on the topic. B. After reflecting, I found that my potential strengths include time management, communication, and consistency. I often find it difficult to meet deadlines due to the pressure of client satisfaction. I tend to lose myself in a project and spend too much time perfecting minor details. My communication could use improvement as well. Sometimes I find it difficult to gather my thoughts and express them clearly. I’ve realized that improving my consistency is also important to my success. My parents agreed with this as well. They expressed that I lose momentum and consistency quickly after starting a new project. C. This assessment revealed skills that I should improve on to succeed. Improving these skills will help me become more professional and strengthen my relationship with clients. I was not surprised to hear my parents’ feedback. They have always criticized my consistency and believe that I am not using my skills to their full potential. I agree with their opinion and know that I could always improve. 3. Faults A. Faults are areas that I would not feel comfortable categorizing as strengths or potential strengths. These faults or bad habits are critical to my success because they have the potential to overpower my strengths. I reflected on areas in my life such as school, work, friends, and family relationships to create a list of traits I would not want to disclose to others. I reflected on how my faults have contributed to my past failures and asked my parents to write down a list of faults they believe negatively affect my success. B. Indecisiveness, procrastination, and temper are faults that hinder my progress on tasks. Decision-making has always been difficult for me. I often feel paralyzed while
