BIO3302 Research Paper Guidelines Write a research paper on one of the topics given at the end of these guidelines. Alternatively, you can select your own topic but it must get my approval. The report should be no less than 7 pages long, not including the cover page and reference information, double spaced and using font size 12. The paper will assess the following: 1. Your ability to understand and address the scope and objectives of a manageable research topic 2. Your ability to identify credible and relevant sources 3. Your use of information effectively to accomplish specific purpose 4. Your ability to present information in a clear and meaningful way 5. Your ability to incorporate your thoughts and personal comments. 6. Your ability to analyze and present researched information 7. Whether you cite sources in an appropriate style. You must use in-text citations. 8. Your ability to incorporate ideas of others in an ethical manner; summarizing, paraphrasing and quoting are correct and appropriate All sources must be properly cited in the , American Psychological Association , APA, the Council of Science Editors scientific style, CSE, or some other accepted format. Whichever the format, the following must be included; the authors listed on the publication (or on the chapter if citing a book) the title of the paper (or chapter if citing a book), the name of the journal (or book) editors if a book is cited volume number complete pagination (first and last page of the work cited) year of publication Here is a site with examples of different ways to cite sources using the APA format. http://www.library.cornell.edu/resrch/citmanage/apa Important sources such as scientific journals, medical text books, encyclopedias or other reliable sources must be used in preparation of the paper. The text book should not be used as a source of information. There must be a minimum of six (8) references including five (5) primary and two (3) secondary sources. The text book can be included as one secondary source. Do not use internet websites unless they are from reputable government or scientific sites.
